My Hero Academia is a hit shonen superhero series that makes sure to flesh out its main characters beyond the scope of their flashy hero costumes and cool Quirks. These characters aren't just fighters -- author Kohei Horikoshi made sure to round out these characters with their own backstories, personalities, worldviews, emotional stakes and more. That includes the #2 pro hero, the winged Hawks.

Characters such as Hawks can be understood on a deeper level when the viewer examines them from all angles and not just their combat record, and a character's astrological sign can help. Astrology isn't always accurate, but it can be insightful all the same, and many MHA characters embody their zodiac signs in unexpected ways. Hawks, for example, is no ordinary Capricorn.

The Stubborn Earth Sign Capricorn, The Goat

Hawks was born on December 28th, meaning he was born under the sign Capricorn -- the same sign as Uraraka Ochaco, AKA Uravity, though they embody this sign in different ways. Capricorn is one of the four earth signs in astrological lore, suggesting a firm, stable personality that patiently works toward its goals and greatly values family. Capricorns can be highly ambitious in terms of career success and personal achievement, although people like Hawks aren't as hotheaded and reckless as Aries or Leo, two of the fire signs. Capricorns know that all good things come in time, and until then, diligent work is the key. No worthwhile project will pay off overnight, but it will bear fruit eventually.

Capricorn, as an earth sign, is also strongly rooted in values such as politeness and most of all, a strong sense of responsibility and duty. Signs of all elements benefit from the virtues of responsibility and hard work, of course, but earth signs like Capricorn are especially dedicated to it, and this can yield incredible results in the long run. If air signs like Gemini are project-based, earth signs like Capricorn are career-based instead, and Capricorns have a stubborn work ethic to match. They work tirelessly now so they can achieve greatness later, and a stable, comfortable life is the perfect soil in which to plant those seeds of success.

Overall, Capricorns value routine, consistency and stability in their work and personal lives alike, which can make them highly reliable for friends and co-workers. Capricorns are also highly self-aware and mindful of their environments, which is a practical approach that contrasts with Gemini's carefree, imaginative ways and the mystical self-absorption of Cancer. Capricorns don't worry too much about what could be -- they make good use of what's right there around them. On the downside, this means they can be too inflexible and might miss out on opportunities or feel too skeptical to even pursue them. Change and adventure aren't a high priority for Capricorns, and they might pay the price for it.

Hawks As A Capricorn In My Hero Academia

Hawks looking unimpressed in My Hero Academia.

In many regards, the winged hero Hawks embodies the best aspects of his zodiac sign while also expressing traits from other signs, making for a well-rounded character. Hawks derives many of his most admirable traits from Capricorn, including his incredibly strong, unyielding sense of duty as a pro hero and his commitment to fighting evil. Later in the My Hero Academia manga, many lower-ranked pro heroes quit to save their own skins, but a stubborn, dutiful Capricorn like Hawks wouldn't dare give in. Instead, he, Endeavor and a few other elite heroes persisted against All For One and Shigaraki Tomura, pushing themselves to the limit in the final battle alongside UA's students. And true to his Capricorn nature, Hawks is true to himself and honest about who he is, refusing to play the mind games of air or water signs like Cancer or Gemini.

Of course, Hawks has Capricorn-style patience when it comes to his ultimate goal as well: to create a peaceful world in which heroes like him aren't needed. He takes this goal seriously, but he's in no rush. Hawks knows that any worthwhile goal requires time, patience and diligence to achieve. Unlike Endeavor, he doesn't pressure himself too much to achieve instant success and prove his worth. Hawks' hard work will speak for itself over time, and until then, it's business as usual. That's the Capricorn way.

Hawks also has traits of Libra, the air sign of justice and balance, to offset his earthly Capricorn nature. He is a winged hero, after all, and his ultimate goal is based more on a sentimental dream than tangible achievements, making Hawks an odd but effective balance of earth and air, which are natural opposites. While operating as a spy among the Paranormal Liberation Front's members, Hawks needed Gemini-style creativity to think on his feet and maintain his cover. However, he could also back it up with Capricorn-brand patience and a good work ethic to achieve results when the time was right. Hawks, true to his sign, knew better than to rush things and get sloppy.
