Adult Swim's hit animated franchise Metalocalypse is coming back for another world tour.

Nathan Explosion and his renowned heavy metal band are set to embark on another adventure in Metalocalypse: Army of the Doomstar. A full-length feature film written and directed by co-creator Brendon Small, the fictional band of Deathlok will also release a companion soundtrack for the film, a new album simply titled "Deathalbum IV" and a nationwide tour. The musical event, titled the "BABYKLOK tour," kicks off on August 30 and will feature Babymetal as co-headliner and Jason Richardson as support.

"It's very surreal having so much new Metalocalypse and Deathklok this year with the trifecta of the tour, movie and album," said Small. "I'm so excited to get on the road with the powerful Babymetal and to celebrate all the hard work that team Metalocalypse and Deathklok put in over the last two years and beyond!"

As for the next film, Metalocalypse: Army of the Doomstar starts with the band's fearless rescue of Toki Wartooth as Nathan Explosion finds himself in "a brutal professional and romantic flat-spin." Tasked with fulfilling the prophecy and overcoming "the ultimate songwriting challenge to save the planet," Deathklok's frontman must look beyond his ego to ultimately save his band, stop the Metalocalypse and defeat the evil Salacia.

Metalocalypse is one of several Adult Swim franchises to return to with a movie in the new future. Fans were also treated to the announcement of feature films based on The Venture Bros. and Aqua Teen Hunger Force, both of which have established themselves as cult-classic series. While the latter released Plantasm in 2022, the former is still in development with the creators often sharing updates on production.

Premiering in 2006, Metalocalypse follows the melodic heavy metal band Deathklok, the most successful musical group in the world. The series often delves into the absurd as the quirky musicians, led by the brutal Nathan Explosion, go to great lengths to not only produce new music but keep the world safe from the powers of darkness. The show is widely considered to be one of Adult Swim's most popular franchises and sports a large and dedicated fanbase.
