Solidus Snake was many things, but, for the most part, he was the President of the United States, a survivor of the Les Enfants Terribles project, and leader of the Sons of Liberty. He was a son of the Big Boss, but was created through cloning by Les Enfants Terribles, and from that, he has harbored deep resentment. He was, however, a perfect clone, despite the fact that he hates who and what he has become. Because of this, he decides to take the Patriots down for what they have done to him, even though they believed that he is the perfect balance of what a human should be, and most importantly, of who Big Boss was. Despite all of this and his apparent perfection, he hates the fact that his aging stops him from doing a lot of things. It is because of this that he descends down a terrible road of ruthless leadership.

10 His Aging Is A Severe Weakness

While his accelerated aging may have been a positive thing when he got elected for the presidency since he looked like he was well into his 40s or 50s, it is actually a weakness. Because the Patriots are to blame for his limited lifespan, Solidus makes it his life mission to punish and destroy them. Because of this, it weakness him in a sense. His hatred takes over, and through that, he becomes a truly ruthless leader—not stopping at anything to get what he wants.

9 He Can't Have Children

It is Solidus' dream to be immortalized, between statues and having a very important legacy. He never wants to be forgotten and wants to stay relevant throughout time. The issue, however, is that because he was cloned, he cannot have children (and he cannot be cloned again). So, while he is desperate to have his name immortalized—to have his legacy go down in history—his actual bloodline, his actual DNA, will never be able to continue on. This means that no matter what he does, the fact that he is sterile is actually a weakness.

8 He Is A Hypocrite

While Solidus Snake respects Big Boss, he is nothing like him. Why does that make him a hypocrite? Well, he is quite convinced that he is becoming like his father, which is seriously not the case. While Big Boss has many amazing traits, like honor, loyalty, and most importantly, empathy and compassion, Solidus has none of this. He desperately wants to make a mark on the world, but, while Big Boss and Solid are making one through doing good, he is doing the opposite, no matter what he thinks.

7 There Was A Problem With His Age

We've mentioned that his age is already a problem because of the fact that it ends up being a weakness, but there was actually another problem with it as well. Solidus was 28 years old when he won the election, becoming the youngest US president ever (despite the fact that physically, he looked much older). However, the problem is that his age, being so young, actually doesn't make him eligible to be a president at all. He is seven years younger than he ought to be, but thankfully, in the world of make-believe, anything is possible.

6 His Name Has Meaning

Artists never do anything by accident, and this includes choosing names for their characters. The name Solidus has two meanings; one being a Roman gold coin and the other soldier. Soldiers were paid in these coins! However, his real name "George Sears" may (but it is not confirmed) have referenced the Sons of Liberty themselves! The man who led the original Sons of Liberty was named Isaac Sears.

5 His Idol

George Washington might be the icon for many Americans for his ideas and big moments in history. Solidus is no exception. However, he took "idolizing the fave" to a whole other level. Firstly, he created an extreme militant group, which is not exactly a great starting point, and then he named it after the Sons of Liberty, inspired by Washington himself. He wanted to go down in history as the same kind of revolutionary that Washington was. This was extremely clear throughout his arc, especially when, before he died, he looked up at a statue of Washington.

4 He Ended Up Getting What He Wanted

The entire series, in terms of Solidus' arc, has to do with destroying the Patriots. While he may have the occasional side story, that is what his entire existence basically revolves around. While he never truly got what he wanted on his own before his untimely death, it ended up happening anyhow. The Patriots were exposed and destroyed at the end of the Guns of the Patriots Incident, and this was all thanks to FOXALIVE.

3 His Strange Relationship

Despite his ruthless nature, Solidus actually enjoyed the company of Raiden, his adopted son. Their relationship mirrors that of Big Boss and Solid Snake, but not quite as heartwarming. That was made extremely clear when Solidus made it extremely clear that he would kill Raiden, not caring that he was his son at all in the end. He wanted the information of the Patriots, and he knew that Raiden was the key to getting it. However, he did give him a sword, which at least allowed Raiden to fight back.

2 Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty

Originally, Solidus was meant to fake his death by staging a double during an attempt at his life at an assassination attempt. This was meant to happen in the "Grand Game Plan." Also originally, his last name was Ryan! It sounds way less threatening, so it doesn't really give the impression that he's the big bad of the series. At one point, Solidus also intended for Romanenko to expose the Patriots with his help.

1 Behind the Voice

Solidus Snake is the main antagonist of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, which means he has a lot of star power in terms of his name. However, he isn't that special! Solidus and Solid Snake are voiced by the same person, in the Japanese version. One has to appreciate the subtle art of irony in this case, as, he is the only perfect clone that resulted. So, it makes sense that he would be voiced by the same person (and that was likely the very intent).
