Sony Pictures has hired "Monsters: Dark Continent" co-writer Jay Basu to script the long-developing adaptation of the hit video game "Metal Gear Solid," Deadline reports.
Jordan Vogt-Roberts ("The Kings of Summer") is still attached to direct, with former Marvel Studios chief Avi Arad producing. It was Arad who seemingly rescued the project from development hell in 2012.
The 1998 Konami game follows soldier Solid Snake as he infiltrates a nuclear weapons facility to neutralize a terrorist threat from a renegade special forces unit. A film adaptation has been in the works since at least 2006.
