Kojima Productions, the developer of Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding, seemingly teased a new project while appearing at Tokyo Game Show 2022.
The company's merchandise booth at the event features a scannable QR code displayed next to an enigmatic poster. When scanned, the QR code takes users to an image hosted on the Kojima Productions website that depicts a female silhouette covered by the words 'Who Am I?' The image also shows a new icon above the Kojima Productions logo which is seemingly unrelated to the company's previous work. The website also encourages users to share the image on various social media sites, implying that it could be a new project.
Hideo Kojima has a knack for revealing his games slowly and in enigmatic ways, with 2019's Death Stranding being painstakingly unveiled over several months using ultra-cryptic trailers. The visionary game director previously worked on the Metal Gear Solid series at Konami, though the two acrimoniously parted ways in 2015 following the release of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. He retroactively referred to the series as titles of Kojima Productions.
A leaker has also recently claimed that the original Metal Gear Solid could be getting a remake, though it is unconfirmed whether series creator Kojima is involved with the project. The same leaker previously revealed the names of all the Assassin's Creed titles featured in the recent Ubisoft Forward event, days before the company formally unveiled them, including the flagship Assassin's Creed: Mirage.
The project could also be a Death Stranding sequel, an unannounced title recently revealed by actor Norman Reedus. When asked about his work on the original game, Reedus let slip in an interview with IGN Brazil that he had just started work on the sequel, which he described as "part two" of the Death Stranding story. Reedus provided the voice and motion capture for the game's lead character Sam Porter Bridges, a delivery man who must haul valuable and unusual cargo across a desolated United States while fending off enemies known as 'Beached Things.' The actor had previously teased Death Stranding 2 back in August 2021.
It is unknown whether an announcement will come during Tokyo Game Show 2022, with Kojima stating earlier in September that his studio had no plans to showcase anything new at the event. Some fans speculate that Kojima might hold off on an announcement until The Game Awards considering his close relationship with industry veteran Geoff Keighley. Keighley also shared the image on Twitter and tagged Kojima, fuelling further speculation.
Death Stranding is currently available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
