ViacomCBS announced it is developing the mermaid horror-comedy Mer, with Orange Is the New Black alumni attached to produce.

According to Deadline, the series will be produced under ViacomCBS' teen brand Awesomeness and is the result of the partnership between Orange Is the New Black star Julie Lake and her writing partner Liz Storm.

ViacomCBS describes the series as "a splashy horror-comedy about martini-swigging, man-eating mermaids on Martha’s Vineyard. The series explores a young woman grappling with newfound power and female metamorphosis through the point of view of a marginalized townie turned killer mermaid." The series will explore the unpacking of feminist themes as the protagonist deals with her new dual life.

Lake and Storm will serve as executive producers on the series, along with fellow OITNB alum Laura Prepon, who'll also direct.

Following Orange Is the New Black. Storm's screenwriting career has been on the rise, as she recently penned the action-comedy Shelly, with Jumanji: The Next Level stars Awkafina and Karen Gillan set to headline.

At this time, no casting information, production start or release date has been announced for Mer.
