In Greek Mythology, Medusa was the daughter of the primordial sea gods Phorcys and Ceto. Unlike her sisters Stheno and Euryale who were born as gorgons, Medusa was a beautiful human woman. She moved to Athens and became a priest of the city's patron goddess, Athena, and was well-loved in the city. However, after she was caught having a romantic tryst with Poseidon in the Temple of Athena, the goddess saw fit to curse Medusa with the same serpentine semblance as her sisters, as well as an unholy gaze that could turn mortals to stone. Medusa was later killed by the hero Perseus, who took her head and used its power to slay the Kraken and rescue the princess Andromeda.

The synopsis for Medusa reads as follows:

After being bitten by a lethal snake, a young woman experiences changes in her senses and appearance, as she sheds her old self and slowly turns into a deadly weapon.

Directed by Matthew B.C., Medusa stars Megan Purvis, Jamila Martin-Wingnett, Nicola Wright, Thomas Beatty and Sarah T. Cohen. The film will be released Aug. 4 in the U.K.
