Medicom released a new Godzilla figure with a very unique build -- the King of the Monsters has half of his skeleton exposed.In celebration of Godzilla's 68th birthday, Medicom's new figure pays homage to the final scene from the 1954 movie in which the Oxygen Destroyer dissolves everyone's favorite Kaiju. The Godzilla Final Scene Statue comes in two colorways: black or gray. The black version mimics the monotone color of the movie, while the gray version features colors. There is spectacular attention to detail, with the 'fleshy' side of the Kaiju featuring glossy red blood on his open wounds on the gray version and realistic-looking exposed bones for both colorways. Godzilla, also known as Gojira, was released theatrically in Japan on Nov. 3, 1954. Directed by Ishirō Honda and starring Akira Takarada, Momoko Kōchi, Akihiko Hirata and Takashi Shimura, the film's original pitch imagined a giant octopus monster before the final decision to use a dinosaur-like monster. Filmmakers intended for Godzilla to represent a nuclear holocaust, with the Kaiju standing in as a metaphor for nuclear weapons. Honda once stated that Godzilla's rampage mirrored the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, saying, "I took the characteristics of an atomic bomb and applied them to Godzilla." During its original theatrical run, Godzilla earned ¥183 million (the equivalent of $1.3 million at today's exchange rate). It is considered one of the best monster movies of all time, with Godzilla becoming a global pop culture icon.

A Great Year for Godzilla Fans

Godzilla fans have had a lot to celebrate this year. In addition to the release of Medicom's epic statue, HUF Worldwide and Urban Outfitters collaborated on a collection of brand-new merchandise, including a skate deck, long and short-sleeved t-shirts and a pullover hoodie. A pachinko collaboration with Evangelion led to the creation of a mind-blowing ad showing Shin Godzilla fusing with Eva-01, raising expectations for any potential future Godzilla x Evangelion crossovers. Even the famous toy company Hot Wheels got in on the fun with the release of two vehicles inspired by the king Kaiju: the Godzilla Character Car and Godzilla Monster Truck.

Toho confirmed a new film coming in 2023 with director Takashi Yamazaki at the helm. Despite concerns from fans in Japan over Yamazaki's lack of experience, excitement remains high because this is the first film from the studio since 2016's Shin Godzilla. On Nov. 3, Godzilla Day, two new original productions dropped: Godzilla Fest Gigan Attack and Godzilla vs. Gigan Rex. Godzilla Fest Gigan Attack crowdfunded its budget, reaching 75% of its goal thanks to only 64 donors. The short film Godzilla vs. Gigan Rex dropped on YouTube after it premiered at Godzilla Fest 2022 so that fans worldwide could enjoy the 6-minute movie.
