Odin’s firstborn daughter, Hela, is one of the most powerful gods in Marvel. She appeared in the 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok film as the main villain. Cate Blanchett portrayed the character, giving life to what would have been the Ruler and Queen of Asgard.

While her other Asgardian siblings, Thor and Loki, may display a tremendous amount of power, one cannot deny that Hela is the most dangerous among them. She could conquer realms if she wants to and could kill anyone whenever she pleases. Let’s break down these scenes from the movie that prove Hela is the true Goddess of Death.

10 Crushed Thor’s Hammer

The iconic scene that shocked everyone is the main reason why Hela could easily defeat Thor. She crushed Mjolnir with just her bare hands and it seems like she did it effortlessly. Aside from that, she was able to stop it from hitting her and managed to carry it before pulverizing it to the ground.

Mjolnir is forged by three Dwarven blacksmiths and is made of Asgardian metal Uru, making it indestructible and resistant to damage. They also summoned a magical force from the heart of a star to mold it. This proves that Hela’s power is beyond her siblings.

9 Single-Handedly Killed Hundreds Of Men

In the scene where Hela gave a speech introducing herself to the Asgardian knights, she made it clear that she is the rightful heir to the throne. When the men defied her and pledged to never surrender to her, she fought them all alone and killed them single-handedly.

What is more surprising is she never used any magic power or help from any other elements but only hand-to-hand combat. Hela is very skilled in fighting because of her years of engaging in past wars with her father, Odin.

8 Banished By Odin

What happens when one becomes too strong that they are unstoppable? They get banished forever. At least that’s what happened to Hela. In this scene, Hela showed how she and Odin used to fight wars together. She was the strongest weapon of Asgard but Odin thought she has become greedy for power and destruction.

Odin only banished her for that reason since what he wanted was to be a king of sound mind. But ignoring that fact, Hela could have been the strongest ruler of Asgard.

7 Awakened The Dead

Of course, the Goddess of Death could bring the dead to life. This is Hela’s most significant power – she could summon any creature from the depths of hell. In this scene, Hela awakened the sleeping army by touching the Asgardian’s Eternal Flame and forcefully wield a power that can conjure the dead.

Loki and Thor could never have powers as menacing as Hela’s. Thunder and Mischief could not defeat Death. In this case, Hela still bags the throne as the most powerful child of Odin.

6 First Wielder Of Mjolnir

Have you ever wondered why Hela was able to hold the Mjolnir? It’s simply because she’s the first owner of the hammer! She was the worthy one before, and she used it when she fought wars with her father.

This scene where Hela strips the painted dome ceiling of Odin’s kingdom and reveals old murals of her and Odin’s bygone exploits proves that she was the first rightful wielder of Mjolnir. It was only taken away from her when she became a ruthless and destructive warrior.

5 Defeated The Valkyrior

When Loki tapped into Valkyrie’s memories, he saw the war between Hela and the Valkyrior. He saw that Hela conquered and killed every single one of Valkyrie’s kind. This is only one of the several places that Hela dominated and wiped out of its inhabitants.

Hela once mentioned that Odin stopped conquering worlds at Nine Realms and she meant to take them all. This shows how broad and fierce Hela’s powers can reach that she managed to erase a whole race of Asgardians.

4 Channel Energy Through Hands

Aside from Hela’s extraordinary hand-to-hand fighting skills and supernatural ability to revive the dead, she can also control mystical energy at the tip of her fingers. In one scene, she touched the fire of Eternal Flame without burning her hands. Then, she passed it onto another force field that created a shock.

If Hela could control elements like fire, perhaps she could also control the rest. If she can channel these energies and absorb them through her body, imagine when she was drowned in the fire during the last scene in Thor: Ragnarok. Hela could still be alive.

3 Manifest Weapons Out Of Her Body

This is Hela’s first line of attack and defense. She summons long, sharp blades from her hands which she uses during fights. She can also transform from her ordinary costume to the combat suit. Even her headdress happens to appear when she changes outfit.

The fact that Hela can easily bring out weapons from her bare hands makes her twice as dangerous. Thor and Loki have their hammer and scepter, but once lost or damaged, they cannot retrieve them anymore. Hela could just flick her hand and voila – a brand new sword!

2 Fought Surtur In Its Full Power

Surtur about to kill Hela in Thor: Ragnarok

A lot of fans may be wondering how Thor managed to kill Surtur in the first scene but Hela could not. Truth is, Surtur was only in his partial form when Thor defeated him. While for Hela, he was already in his full-force form, which is totally unfair.

If Hela is more powerful than Thor, then how did he defeat her? The answer is no, he did not. He only managed to escape because he awakened Surtur. Points still go to Hela. Plus, Thor sacrificed the entirety of Asgard to take her down, while Hela managed to conquer realms without destroying them.

1 Hand Of Glory

The movie might have not shown the extent of this power of Hela, since it may seem counterintuitive, but she widely uses this in the comics. It is called the Hand of Glory because she can kill anything with the touch of her hand. She could have killed Thor with the number of times she wrapped her hands around his neck in the movie.

As Odin’s firstborn, Hela is somewhat expected to be much stronger than her siblings given that Asgardians become more powerful as they age and gain experience.
