A spirited debate is currently taking place online that hinges on which Marvel Cinematic Universe installment is worse: Captain Marvel or Thor: The Dark World.Fans on either side of the debate are drawing their respective lines in the sand on Twitter, with some firmly in the camp of Carol Danvers and others backing the God of Thunder. Others, meanwhile, are arguing that Marvel Studios' oft-ignored The Incredible Hulk and the controversial Iron Man 3 should be in the running as well.RELATED: A Terrifying MCU Thor Villain Survived Marvel's 'Worst' Film - But Where Is It Now?

Released in 2013, Thor: The Dark World was directed by Alan Taylor and served as a follow-up to the God of Thunder's first solo outing by pitting him against the Dark Elf Malekith. Sporting a 66% critics score and a 75% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, The Dark World is often the butt of MCU jokes, and the process of making the film took a major creative toll on Taylor. "I had lost the will to make movies. I lost the will to live as a director," he recently explained. "I'm not blaming any person for that. The process was not good for me. So I came out of it having to rediscover the joy of filmmaking."

Captain Marvel took flight in 2019 from writers/directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck and told the origin story of Carol Danvers, who returned to Earth in the 199os after an accident involving the Kree gifted her with immense powers. While Captain Marvel beats The Dark World's critics score on Rotten Tomatoes with 79%, the audience score is just 45%. However, it's also worth noting the release of Captain Marvel was met with a flurry of review bombs on the aggregation site from newly created accounts that left negative reviews with little to no critical analysis of the film itself. The whole situation resulted in several policy changes by Rotten Tomatoes, including the removal of the "Want to See" percentage score, which was similarly tanked for Captain Marvel.

As for the aforementioned Incredible Hulk and Iron Man 3, neither are well-loved by most MCU fans but both -- coincidentally -- include elements that are getting a new lease on life thanks to Marvel's next movie, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. In the case of Hulk, Tim Roth's Abomination will return for a cage fight against Wong, and for Iron Man 3, both the real and fake Mandarins will factor into the plot (of course the former will presumably have a much larger role since he's the main antagonist).
