Marvel Studios has officially released the first trailer to Eternals and introduces a host of new heroes into the ever-growing and evolving Marvel Cinematic Universe. Part of that story will revolve around two more prominent team members, Ikaris (Richard Madden) and Sersi (Gemma Chan). The trailer establishes that the two share a strong romantic connection. But fans have noticed that with the introduction of Dane Whitman (Kit Harrington), a love triangle may form thanks to the Blip caused by the Mad Titan himself, Thanos.

In the Eternals movie, one of the most enduring relationships will be between Sersi and Ikaris. The film appears to be playing on their affection for one another with clips showing their romance through the centuries. The trailer also reveals that there is a potential wedding between the two of them somewhere in India. Considering how greatly the universe was affected by the snapping of Thanos' fingers, it's possible that their timeless romance was interrupted by Ikaris being dusted.

In the five years when half of humanity was picking up the pieces, Sersi may have forced herself to move on. Even as an Eternal, the decimation created by Thanos was something never seen before, and even with their ability to resurrect fallen Eternals, this was likely impossible to do without Ikaris' body. As she began to find a new life without him, it could've led to her second love interest, Dane Whitman.

In the comics, Whitman is the wielder of the Ebony Blade, a cursed sword that turns him into the hero, the Black Knight. While carrying the mantle and fighting alongside the Avengers, he had a romantic relationship with Sersi that blossomed into love. Though he's only shown for a moment in the trailer, that same romance could be taking effect. However, with Ikaris' return following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Sersi will have to make a choice.

Torn between her past and present, Sersi's love triangle between Whitman and Ikaris could open multiple doors into the expansive history of the Eternals and the MCU. With Ikaris, viewers could see centuries of their relationship and how they and the other Eternals impacted humanity. But with Whitman, the film could show the universe's ever-growing potential as he takes his first steps towards the Ebony Blade and the title of the Black Knight.

There is no denying that Thanos' decision to wipe out half of existence has created repercussions in the MCU that will take years to recuperate from. But it has also yielded some interesting stories, like a potential love triangle between Sersi, Ikaris and Whitman. Should their romances create friction, it could serve as a great focal point to explore new aspects of the MCU through the Eternals and tie into the larger narrative through Whitman and his impending destiny.

Directed by Chloé Zhao from a screenplay by Matthew and Ryan Firpo, Eternals stars Gemma Chan as Sersi, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Angelina Jolie as Thena, Barry Keoghan as Druig and Kit Harington as Dane Whitman/Black Knight. The film arrives in theaters Nov. 5.
