During Avengers: Endgame, Earth's Mightiest Heroes went back through Marvel Cinematic Universe history to steal the various Infinity Stones and use them to undo Thanos' actions in Avengers: Infinity War. During that adventure, though, the Avengers ran into some trouble when they returned to the Battle of New York, which resulted in Loki escaping with the Tesseract/Space Stone. In this video, we're going to explain just how the Tesseract may have used Loki to escape Thanos.
While Loki's getting ahold of the Tesseract might have seemed like a happy coincidence, there might be something more to the event. Both the Infinity Stone and Loki wanted to flee the situation in which they'd found themselves, and they were also going to eventually get destroyed by Thanos. It would thus be in the Tesseract's best interest to escape that particular timeline so as to avoid destruction. Being the Space Stone, the Tesseract could have easily used its abilities to ensure Loki was able to pick it up and escape.

Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, it's not totally clear just what shape the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will take. While there's a good indication the characters that Disney acquired from 21st Century Fox will soon arrive, there's not much solid information on just when or how that might happen. Right now, there are a lot of potential directions the MCU could take going forward, though exactly which one it will take remains to be seen. Still, the God of Mischief's relationship to the Space Stone is likely to be explained in more depth when Disney+'s Loki series arrives in May.
