The Marvel Cinematic Universe is famous for many things, including its delightful dialogue. At times, the characters may say some truly impressive, heartbreaking, or deep things, but MCU fans love the funny dialogue most of all. Tony Stark is famous for his one-liners, and Loki, Thor, and Spider-Man are also known for their goofy, amusing dialogue.

Meanwhile, in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, the rogue hero Star-Lord is a comedy staple with his wacky lines, his amusing reactions to the nonsense around him, and his physical humor as well. Throughout Phases 2 and 3, Star-Lord says all kinds of silly things that remind MCU fans why they love this spacefaring rascal and his Guardians friends.

10 "Star Lord, Man. Legendary Outlaw. Guys?"

Peter Quill in Guardians Of The Galaxy as Star-Lord frowning.

When Star-Lord made his debut in Phase 2, he quickly established himself as a casual, unpredictable, and somewhat vain character, not unlike Han Solo in Star Wars but with more outward goofiness. One of his first lines summed all this up when his enemies failed to recognize the name "Star-Lord."

It was amusing to see this new MCU hero react in such a conversational tone when trying to impress his deadly enemies with this name. It was almost like Peter Quill was talking to his friends and trying to convince them that his new nickname was cool, not a joke.

9 "You Said It Yourself, B***H! We're The Guardians Of The Galaxy!"

Peter Quill smiling in Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

Star-Lord is known to use casually crude language to make his point, either to express his frustration and anger or to maintain his image as an easygoing, down-to-earth person who doesn't like grandiose language. He will even talk that way to his allies, but he's not really trying to upset them.

Sometimes, the Guardians of the Galaxy crew needs a morale boost, and Star-Lord will provide one with his goofy but heartfelt speeches. For a wacky bunch of misfits like them, a line like this is all he needs to encourage Gamora, Drax, and the others to bravely dive back into the action and save the day.

8 "Bereet! Look, I'm Gonna Be Totally Honest With You. I Forgot You Were Here."

Bereet the alien looking upset in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Early in 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy, Star-Lord was established as a Captain Kirk wannabe. That is, he was a slick, stylish space rogue who liked to get involved with attractive alien women, but he also tended to forget about them, including poor Bereet.

This line was hilarious at the time, but it's not just a gag — it helped set Star-Lord's personal arc into motion. He went from a carefree playboy to a proper man who will take one lady very seriously as his romantic partner, that being Gamora.

7 "I'm Distracting You, You Big Turd Blossom!"

Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser upset in Guardians of the Galaxy.

During the climax of Guardians of the Galaxy, the villain Ronan the Accuser launches his assault on Xandar, and the Guardians and Xandar's defense forces fight Ronan to a standstill. Then, Ronan arrived in person to use the Power Stone and destroy everything in sight.

Star-Lord, being his street-wise and creative self, decided that acting like a fool was actually a stroke of genius. He didn't need a brilliant plan to foil Ronan — he just had to act weird enough to get Ronan's attention with his bizarre antics and dialogue, and it worked exactly as intended.

6 "Drax, Do You Have Any Tape? Yeah, Scotch Tape Would Work! ...Then Why Would You Ask Me If Scotch Tape Would Work If You Didn't Have Any?"

Dave Bautista as Drax in the Marvel Cinematic Universe looking over his shoulder.

In 2017's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the Guardians went up against the mighty Ego, and they actually fought inside Ego's planet-body to destroy his brain. Rocket Raccoon wanted to tape over the doom button on his improvised bomb and asked Star-Lord to get some tape.

Star-Lord spent a few minutes in that intense battle trying to find tape and his dialogue made it clear that Drax was being hysterically dense and unhelpful about the situation. The whole time, Rocket was waiting impatiently for that tape, and then Groot ran off with the bomb anyway, tape or no tape.

5 "Dude, Don't Call Us Plucky. We Don't Know What It Means."

Star-Lord with dramatic space background.

In 2018's The Avengers: Infinity War, the Guardians of the Galaxy teamed up with Iron Man, Doctor Strange, and Spider-Man to fight Thanos on the planet Titan. The two groups often made fun of one another, and Star-Lord had a comeback for every one of Iron Man's lines.

Iron Man gently mocked the Guardians as being plucky, but Star-Lord objected. At first, it seemed Star-Lord was annoyed at being patronized by Iron Man, but then he made a fool of himself and the other Guardians by stating — with a straight face — that they don't even know what "plucky" means.

4 "No, I'm Not From Earth, I'm From Missouri."

Star-Lord aims his weapon at Spider-Man in the MCU.

In Infinity War, Star-Lord's group and Iron Man's group briefly fought one another and took Spider-Man and Drax hostage. A tense exchange followed, with each side trying to figure things out. Iron Man, for example, demanded to know where the Guardians of the Galaxy were from, perhaps planet Earth.

Being humorously dense, Star-Lord sternly said he was from Missouri, not from Earth. At once, Iron Man harshly criticized Star-Lord for failing to realize that the Show-Me state is, in fact, on planet Earth. Star-Lord identified strongly with his human half, but that didn't mean he was good at geopolitics or maps.

3 "Yeah. Tall Guy, Not That Good-Looking, Needed Rescuing."

Star-Lord facing Thor in the MCU.

It was both amusing and sympathetic how insecure Star-Lord felt when he was around the mighty Thor Odinson, who was arguably at the peak of masculinity with his cool voice, rugged good looks, and fearless personality. Star-Lord felt personally threatened, but the other Guardians took Thor's side.

Star-Lord was still bothered by that, so when the topic of Thor came up later, Star-Lord tried to one-up the god of thunder verbally. Star-Lord casually dismissed Thor as being unattractive and helpless, which was only partially true at most. Thor did need rescuing, but then Thor outshone everyone later at the battle of Wakanda.

2 "Flash Gordon? That's A Compliment. Don't Forget, I'm Half-Human. So That 50% Of Me That's Stupid, That's 100% You."

Star-Lord looking intense in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Many of Star-Lord's best MCU lines came from the battle of Titan, where he, Iron Man, and the other Guardians had one goofy line after another. All the characters played off each other quite well, even when Iron Man called the Guardians silly nicknames.

Iron Man called Star-Lord Flash Gordon, and Star-Lord took it in stride. He exasperated everyone when he pointed out that if his human side made him stupid, then Iron Man was doubly stupid, but no one was really buying it.

1 "I Like To Think Of Myself More As A Titan-Killing, Long-Term Booty Call!"

Star-Lord vs. Thanos on Knowhere in MCU.

When Thanos captured Gamora in Knowhere, Star-Lord abandoned his battle plan and confronted his girlfriend's foster father directly. Thanos informally acknowledged Star-Lord as "the boyfriend," so Star-Lord, with a straight face, described himself in even more colorful terms.

Star-Lord's line was silly in itself, but it also said a few things about Peter Quill himself. Star-Lord took himself seriously, but not too seriously to joke about himself in combat, proving that he likes to stay humble and grounded, unlike Doctor Strange or Thor. Star-Lord also strongly implied that he was ready and willing to kill Thanos to save Gamora, but he stood no chance of doing that alone.
