The Marvel Cinematic Universe having all of their superhero movies connected to each other is both a blessing and a curse. While it's extremely satisfying to see all of our favorite heroes coming together to fight villains, it's also extremely tedious to try and maintain continuity with little to no errors. They've done an excellent job expanding the universe and stakes with Phase Three, but they've also introduced several plot holes that exist either within their individual movies or the MCU as a whole. Many eagle-eyed fans have already pointed them out as being confusing, and Marvel may need to do a better job of keeping their continuity tight if they plan on continuing after Avengers 4.

That said, with the issues they've introduced to the timeline, Marvel has the chance of rectifying them with the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War. Being a cataclysmic event that will reshape the MCU going forward, there could be some problems that Marvel finally addresses within the film. While the plot holes that rose during Phase Three don't ruin our enjoyment of it, it doesn't ignore the fact that there are problems that need to be addressed in the future. Here are 15 Phase Three plot holes that could be fixed by Avengers: Infinity War.

15 NO VISION IN LAGOS

vision in captain america: civil war

During the opening moments of Captain America: Civil War, we get to see the Avengers trying to neutralize a threat in Lagos. That threat is none other than Crossbones, who appeared previously in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. This time around, he was prepared to take Cap down and the result was a lot of casualties in the city of Lagos.

However, that problem would've been solved if Vision had been there for the mission. Despite being a consistent member of the Avengers team, Vision was nowhere to be found. What was he doing in that time? Figuring out how to flirt with Scarlet Witch? That said, Avengers: Infinity War could address this by saying that he was being affected by the Infinity Gem in his forehead.

14 ZEMO'S TIMING

The villain in Captain America: Civil War was Zemo. After his family was murdered during the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron, he swore that he would get back at the heroes by enacting an elaborate plan to turn them against each other. That said, his timing was extremely impeccable considering that he decides to act around the same time that the United Nations tried to get them to sign the Sokovia Accords.

When it comes to convenient timing with villains, it would be easy for Avengers: Infinity War to explain it away by having Thanos serve as the puppetmaster for the entire MCU. After all, he won't want to fight the Avengers if they're united, so the best way to tear them apart is by picking them off one by one.

13 LACK OF AVENGERS RECOGNITION

thunderbolt-ross-casting-black-panther

The entire premise of Captain America: Civil War centers around the idea that the Avengers have been operating unchecked, and that their actions have resulted in many innocent lives being lost. Once we see Thaddeus Ross lecturing the superheroes on their actions, he only talks about the people that died in the wake of their intervention.

The problem here is that there is no logical recognition that their response to these events has resulted in the preservation of the entire globe. Granted, Ultron wouldn't exist if it weren't for Tony. However, Loki would've conquered the world, HYRDA would've succeeded in their goal, and Malekith would've held on to the Nine Realms if it weren't for them. Perhaps Thanos has been whispering into the world leaders' ears?

12 STEALING SACRED BOOKS

Doctor Strange introduced us to the magical side of the MCU. That said, its execution was fairly flawed, and there were some plot holes that popped up in the film. One of them was when Doctor Strange figured out how to use his Sling Ring to teleport to other areas. He decided that he wanted to read some sacred books in the Sanctum Sanctorum that Wong was guarding. He used his Sling Ring to steal them under Wong's nose.

The problem with that is, because the Sanctum is particularly adept in dealing with mystic people, they should have some sort of countermeasure to prevent that from happening. Wong should've immediately known that Strange was trying to take the sacred books and steal them right back.

11 NEVER TAKING THE EYE OF AGAMOTTO

eye of agamotto

After Kaecilius began terrorizing the world and hunting down each of the world's Sanctums, Doctor Strange came across the Eye of Agamotto and decided to use it to stop the villain. However, it was an extremely powerful object, and Mordo and Wong were extremely disturbed that Strange would willingly take such an object. The issue here is that they never do anything to try and take the Eye back -- instead they just let Strange keep it.

To be fair, Strange does put it back at the end of the movie, but there's a possibility that the Infinity Stones have all been appearing in rapid succession due to actions on Thanos' part. This could be why Wong and Mordo allowed Strange to keep it for the time being. He'll be using it again in Infinity War.

10 DOCTOR STRANGE TAKING YEARS

For the most part, the MCU has been releasing in chronological order. Captain America: The First Avenger happened decades in the past, but it did bookend ties to the present. However, things were severely changed in Marvel's Phase Three. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 happened right after Guardians of the Galaxy. Black Panther takes place a few weeks after Captain America: Civil War. Then there's Doctor Strange.

The placement of this movie in the timeline is very confusing. It happens over years (as explained in the film). No one is sure when it takes place and, as a result, nobody knows where Strange is at the start of Avengers: Infinity War. This would be a great opportunity for the movie to explain where the movie specifically fits in the MCU.

9 YONDU RETCONNED

When we return to the adventures of Star-Lord and his companions in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the movie is more focused on bringing a family message to the team. Because of this, we get the plot of Star-Lord's father, Ego the Living Planet, coming to the forefront and trying to reconnect with his son. Along the way, Yondu gets more involved with the team. However, he has many moments with Peter Quill where he tells him that he was always his real father.

This is in stark contrast to what was established in Guardians of the Galaxy. Yondu seemed to be a detached, uncaring alien who only cared about getting another paycheck. He constantly held up the fact that he didn't let the Ravagers eat Star-Lord. It was a meaningful but strange retcon.

8 NO INTERVENTION FOR EGO

Young-Ego-Guardians-2

When we begin Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, we get to see Peter Quill's mother and father as they were young and in love. Ego shows his lover about this special flower that he plants on Earth. At the end of the movie, it's revealed that the flower contained his living essence. By activating it, multiple planets would be infused with his life force.

Earth suddenly gets overtaken by this massive source of energy, which is a massive problem. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 takes place in 2014. At this time in the MCU, the Avengers were at the height of their activity. Avengers: Age of Ultron didn't happen until 2015 and Civil War didn't take place until 2016. Earth's Mightiest Heroes were never shown to respond to Ego's plot. Perhaps there could be a subtle line from Tony that pays recognition to this event in Infinity War.

7 TONY RECRUITING PETER

After it was announced that Spider-Man was going to be in the MCU, the Russo Brothers found one of the most succinct ways of bringing the wallcrawler into the MCU. When he goes to visit Peter Parker, he seemingly knows that he is Spider-Man and informs him that he needs some more help when it comes to taking down Captain America.

However, the recruitment of a 15-year old seems in stark contrast to Tony's arc in the movie. He has been moved by his guilt, which led him to sign the Sokovia Accords. One of the big moments of the movie was when a woman stated that her son, a college student, died in Sokovia. After feeling guilty about the death of a young boy, Tony decides to willingly bring another young boy into harm's way. Avengers: Infinity War might give Tony the opportunity to express why he recruited Spider-Man.

6 8 YEARS LATER

Spider-Man-Homecoming-Adrian-Toomes

When Spider-Man: Homecoming opens, we don't start with Peter Parker. Instead, we see the work of Adrian Toomes and his fellow workers as they try to clean up the events of The Avengers. It's not long before he is booted out of his job by Tony Stark and left to his own devices to provide for his family. Then the movie jumps forward to the events of Spider-Man: Homecoming with a frame that says "8 years later."

This time jump makes no sense. The Avengers took place in 2012, and Spider-Man: Homecoming takes place in 2017. It's not long after Captain America: Civil War, which confirms the date for us. This large oversight might be the one that Marvel tries to correct. Perhaps they'll retcon the actual year date when Avengers: Infinity War comes out.

5 THOR'S HUNT FOR THANOS

infinity-stones

Leading to the release of Thor: Ragnarok, the God of Thunder was the Avenger that had an idea of what was to come in the future. Because of this, Marvel stated that, at the time of the third movie, he was hunting for the Mad Titan as well as trying to see what was so relevant about the Infinity Stones popping up.

When we actually saw Thor: Ragnarok take place, there was no mention of Thanos, the Infinity Stones, or the greater MCU plot at large. While that was largely to the movie's credit, it does feel like there is a lot we're missing as the audience. Now that we know Thanos will come knocking on the Asgardian ship, it's possible that Thor could mention a bit more about his time searching for the significance of the Infinity Stones.

4 LADY SIF'S DISAPPEARANCE

LADY SIF WILL BE BACK

Thor: Ragnarok spent a lot of time essentially rebooting the entire Thor franchise while not having to recast any of its characters. When Hela first gets to Asgard, she spends the first few minutes getting rid of the Warriors Three: Volstagg, Fandral, and Hogun. The only character, to her ultimate benefit, who seems to be absent from the carnage is Lady Sif.

Reportedly, Marvel wanted Jamie Alexander to reprise her role in the movie, but she couldn't appear. Because of this, she wasn't mentioned or referenced in the movie. The film pretended like Lady Sif never existed. While we doubt that her disappearance will ever be explained (let alone in Avengers: Infinity War), there's a slight chance that there could be some sort of reference to it.

3 THE DEATH OF BRUCE BANNER?

Thor Ragnarok Bruce Banner

When Thor meets the Hulk, the green giant has seemingly taken over Bruce Banner and developed its own personality. When Bruce Banner resurfaces, he states that the Hulk was entirely in control, where he would usually have one hand on the wheel. He was also concerned that if he were to turn into the Hulk again, that he would stay that way.

As we all know, the finale showed Bruce Banner turning into the Hulk in the fight against Hela. He jumped out of the Sakaaran ship to fight Fenris Wolf on the Rainbow Bridge. However, he didn't transform right away and instead landed right on the bridge, seemingly breaking his entire body. He did manage to transform, though. The implication is that Bruce Banner is gone -- so we'll be interested to see how Avengers: Infinity War explains his reappearance.

2 RESPONSE TO WAKANDA

At the end of Black Panther, we get to see T'Challa take full leadership over Wakanda and decide to come to the rest of the world and state that he wants to help the other nations. The other world leaders seem a little skeptical at first, but the Wakandans seem to help anyway, despite the ongoing lie that they were little more than a third-world country.

In Avengers: Infinity War, Wakanda will be responsible for a large set piece in the movie. Due to their newfound involvement in the world, it might be high time for the MCU to explain how the world has adjusted to the newly revealed Wakanda. We're confident that it won't be addressed, as that would probably be a topic for Black Panther 2, but it's something to keep in mind.

1 BLACK PANTHER SAVED BY THE SNOW

Black Panther

After his ritual battle with Killmonger, T'Challa lost the fight and was thrown down the waterfall. When the remainder of his friends decided to go to the Jabari Tribe, they showed them that they found T'Challa on the brink of death and were preserving his life in the snow. It was then that M'Baku stated that the snow was what was keeping him alive.

There's not a lot of logical research to back up the idea that snow would keep someone alive. Secondly, it's never explained why the snow is keeping him alive. Perhaps there's some other Wakandan technology or altered DNA that allowed T'Challa to be preserved by the snow. If that's the case, there's a chance we could see it in Avengers: Infinity War if he ends up being thrashed by Thanos .
