The future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is definitely female, according to Thor: Ragnarok star Tessa Thompson.

"In [Black Panther], there are all these incredible women in the form of Angela Bassett and Lupita [Nyong'o] and Danai [Gurira]," Thompson told Entertainment Tonight Monday at the world premiere of Black Panther. "We're going to see Brie Larson and her standalone with DeWanda Wise, who is also here tonight, doing Captain Marvel. We'll see what happens with Valkyrie next, but yeah, the women rule supreme; they always have. But I think we'll see in the next phase [of Marvel films] that really translate on screen in a real way."

As the current third phase of the MCU nears its conclusion, female heroes will play a prominent role in Ant-Man and The Wasp, featuring Evangeline Lilly's Janet van Dyne, and in the aforementioned Captain Marvel, arriving March 8, 2019.

Marvel Studios has kept secret most of its plans for the next phase, which begins following the May 2019 release of the still-untitled Avengers 4. However, it's already known that July 2019's Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 will begin that next chapter, and pick up mere minutes after the events of Avengers 4. There's also Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, not to mention a potential Black Widow solo film, starring Scarlett Johansson.

The next Marvel film, director Ryan Coogler's Black Panther, arrives Feb. 16, and stars Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa, Michael B. Jordan as Erik Killmonger, Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Daniel Kaluuya as W’Kabi, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Angela Bassett as Ramonda, Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross, Andy Serkis as Ulysses Klaue, and Forest Whitaker as Zuri.
