Loki has fought in many epic battles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As the God of Mischief, he has been both a hero and a villain, fighting to get what he wants without being loyal to the other protagonists or antagonists in the franchise. He was first introduced in Thor and was the antagonist in The Avengers. He was also a main character in Thor: The Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok, while having a small yet important role in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

Most recently, Loki is the titular character of his own Disney+ series, which introduced many of his variants. With a second season on the way, as well as Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness coming to theaters on May 6th, now is a great time to look back at his greatest battles.

8 He Fought Thor

Thor tries to save Loki

At the end of Thor, the God of Thunder returned to Asgard and confronted his brother for sending the Destroyer to kill him and his friends. Loki blasted Thor with a beam of energy and left him to attack Jotunheim from the Bifrost Bridge.

Thor followed Loki and tried to stop him from killing the Frost Giants, but Loki attacked his brother to make sure everything went according to plan. The Asgardian princes began fighting each other to determine the fate of Jotunheim and who would become the heir to Asgard's throne.

7 Thor Defeated Loki And Saved Jotunheim

Loki on Bifrost Bridge

During the battle, Loki seemed to fall off of the Bifrost Bridge and held onto it, begging his brother to help him up. Thor tried to pick Loki up, not wanting his brother to die. However, Thor learned that the version of Loki hanging onto the bridge was a clone that the God of Mischief made. The real Loki stabbed the God of Thunder and created more clones that surrounded his brother.

As they all prepared to attack him, Thor cast a bolt of lightning onto them, getting rid of the fake Lokis and knocking the real one back. Thor then placed his hammer, Mjolnir, on Loki's chest, stopping him from getting up as he walked away. Once the God of Thunder was far enough away that his brother couldn't catch up, he summoned Mjolnir back and destroyed the bridge, saving the Frost Giants.

6 Loki And Sylvie Fought Each Other

At the end of Loki, the titular character and Sylvie went to the Citadel at the End of Time. He Who Remains gave them two choices: they would either replace him as the rulers of the Time Variance Authority or kill him. Killing him could cause all of Loki's variants, who were much more dangerous than him, to begin a second Multiversal War that would result in his resurrection, making it so that all of time would repeat.

Due to her hatred of the Time Variance Authority and not believing what He Who Remains told her, Sylvie attempted to kill him. Loki grabbed her before she could, hoping she would think things through. In her anger, she began attacking Loki.

5 Sylvie Beat Loki

While Loki didn't want to hurt the variant that he fell in love with, he was left with no choice but to fight back. He tried to block her attacks and convince her to think of what would happen if He Who Remains was telling the truth, but she believed that the God of Mischief wanted to rule over the Time Variance Authority.

In a final attempt to stop Sylvie, Loki confessed his feelings for her. She kissed him, distracting the God of Mischief before pushing him through a Timedoor, a portal that brought him back to the TVA. She then killed He Who Remains, changing the timeline as they knew it.

4 He Fought Hela's Berserkers

Thor Ragnarok Loki

After Loki left Sakaar, he returned to Asgard at the end of Thor: Ragnarok to save his people from Hela. Putting his differences with Thor and his comrades aside, the God of Mischief joined them to defend his home. Hela's army of Berserkers ran towards Loki and his allies as they blocked the path to the rest of the Asgardians, allowing them to get off of the Bifrost Bridge and onto the Statesman ship.

While the God of Mischief didn't defeat as many Berserkers as his comrades did, he stayed close to the Statesman and made sure the Asgardians got on it safely. Hela approached him, Thor, and Valkyrie shortly after they beat the Berserkers, and they knew that the battle was far from over.

3 He Used Surtur To Beat Hela

Surtur in Thor: Ragnarok - MCU Movie

As their older sister walked over to them, Thor told Loki to leave Hela to him and to summon Surtur instead. Loki fulfilled the task Thor sent him on, causing Surtur to destroy Asgard's castle and everything surrounding it.

Surtur also killed Hela, who would have continued dictating the Asgardians if it weren't for Loki. To save their people, Thor and Loki were willing to work together and sacrifice their kingdom, fulfilling the Ragnarok prophecy.

2 He Fought The Avengers

Loki stabs Thor atop Stark Tower in the Avengers

As his Chitauri army attacked New York, Loki began fighting Thor on the top of Stark Tower in The Avengers. As the brothers attacked each other, Black Widow, Captain America, and Hawkeye drove a Quinjet over to them.

They began shooting at Loki but he quickly blasted them down. Thor tried to convince Loki to join forces with him and the other heroes to stop the Chitauri one last time. The God of Mischief refused and stabbed his brother. Outraged, Thor beat Loki up until he managed to escape on a Chitauri Chariot.

1 Hulk Defeated Him

Hulk vs Loki

Black Widow had also gotten on a Chitauri Chariot. Loki followed her until Hawkeye shot an arrow at him. While the God of Mischief was able to catch the arrow, it blew up and knocked him back into Stark Tower. There, Hulk pushed him into a wall.

Angered by this, Loki told Hulk that he was much better than him as he was a god. Hulk picked Loki up, smashed him into the ground several times, called him a "puny god," and defeated him. The Avengers then finished off the Chitauri army, stopping Loki's goal of ruling Earth.
