The Elders of the Universe are a strange group of Marvel Comics villains who have begun to make the transition from page to screen, first with Benicio Del Toro's Collector in Guardians of the Galaxy and now Jeff Goldblum's Grandmaster in Thor: Ragnarok. Despite earlier rumors to the contrary, the Elders remain scattered across the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but that may not be the case for long.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has acknowledged he hopes to bring together Del Toro's Collector and Goldblum's Grandmaster onscreen.

"It would be awesome, man," he told Fandango. "We love the idea that they're brothers. If you go on the Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout attraction at California Adventure in Anaheim, you will see a picture on Collector's wall of he and the Grandmaster playing some sort of a space chess game, which right now is the only place you can see the two of them in a frame together, but let's hope that changes someday."

In the comics, the Elders of the Universe are ancient cosmic entities obsessed with singular pursuits. The group has a lot of members, but some prominent ones include the Collector, the Grandmaster, the boxing-obsessed Champion and the plant-loving Gardener. The Elders are more of a bickering cosmic social club than a family, but they come together to oppose common enemies, such as the Avengers.

Relevant to the movies, the Elders are often associated with the Infinity Stones and Thanos. In the comic Thanos Quest, the Mad Titan actually steals the Stones from the Elders, using each of them to best the Elders at their own games. Often, the Avengers need to team up with the Elders to defeat Thanos. Perhaps that's where we will see them come together on the screen- in one of the upcoming Avengers sequels.

In the meantime, you can see the Grandmaster in Thor: Ragnarok, arriving nationwide Friday. Director Taika Waititi's film stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Karl Urban as Skurge, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/the Hulk and Anthony Hopkins as Odin.
