Vin Diesel's time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the voice of Guardians of the Guardian's Groot has helped shape how the star has charted the finale of his Fast & Furious franchise, which will end with the tenth and eleventh films in the series.

"Even as far back as 2012, 2013, it was something that Pablo [Walker] and I would discuss, finishing on the 10th one," Diesel told Entertainment Weekly. "That just always felt right. And being a part of the Marvel franchise, seeing that possibility that when you have that much story you can end with two films. It was something that we'd talked about that became real. It's just been such a wonderful, wonderful run, and we'd always envisioned that 10 would be the farewell, the finale, and that is what our story is working towards."

The MCU ended its Infinity Saga with Avengers: Endgame, which encompassed 23 movies in total. 2008's Iron Man kicked off the MCU, with the villain Thanos making his first appearance in a post-credits scene in 2012's The Avengers. From there, Marvel Studios sprinkled in the six Infinity Stones, slowly building to 2018's Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame.

The Fast & Furious franchise began in 2001, with 2003's 2 Fast 2 Furious and 2006's The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift keeping with its street-racing origins. However, 2009's Fast & Furious brought back original stars Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster, and steered the franchise away from street-racing and into the action-adventure genre.

The synopsis for F9 can be found below.

No matter how fast you are, no one outruns their past.

Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto is leading a quiet life off the grid with Letty and his son, little Brian, but they know that danger always lurks just over their peaceful horizon. This time, that threat will force Dom to confront the sins of his past if he’s going to save those he loves most. His crew joins together to stop a world-shattering plot led by the most skilled assassin and high-performance driver they’ve ever encountered: a man who also happens to be Dom’s forsaken brother, Jakob (John Cena, next year’s The Suicide Squad).

F9 sees the return of Justin Lin as director, who helmed the third, fourth, fifth and sixth chapters of the series when it transformed into a global blockbuster. The action hurtles around the globe—from London to Tokyo, from Central America to Edinburgh, and from a secret bunker in Azerbaijan to the teeming streets of Tblisi. Along the way, old friends will be resurrected, old foes will return, history will be rewritten, and the true meaning of family will be tested like never before.

F9 stars Vin Diesel, John Cena, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel and Sung Kang, with Helen Mirren, Charlize Theron and Cardi B. The film arrives in theaters on May 28, 2021.
