Many agree that Black Panther's Killmonger is one of the finest villains in movie history, and especially comic book movie history. Played By Michael B. Jordan, Killmonger was a suave, stylish, and ideologically motivated villain. He was not unremarkable, like many MCU villains.

Thanos is the overarching villain of the Avengers series of movies, with his peak action coming in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Both these characters have really upped the MCU's villain game, and there is a case to be made for each of these characters to be called the best villain in the MCU.

10 Killmonger: Sheer Charisma

Killmonger in Black Panther - MCU

Erik "Killmonger" Stevens is a talented, educated, physically gifted, and strategic character. He's not someone who monologues for the sake of monologuing.

Quite different from the usual MCU villains, Killmonger has immense charisma that attracts people to him. There is a reason why he is able to draw attention to what he's saying. It's because his ideas are pretty convincing and he's saying it quite well.

9 Thanos: His Ideas Come From A Place Of True Belief

Thanos truly believes that the only way to sustain life is to destroy one half of life in the universe. He has done it in smaller scales before, experimenting on places like Gamora's home planet.

And he firmly believes in his philosophy. He thinks it is the only way to go about things. He thinks it is the only way for life to continue to exist. His actions come from a place of a genuine belief in his own motives, and from his genuine concern about existence and sustenance of life in the universe.

8 Killmonger: It's Hard To Not Agree With Some Of The Things He Says

With most villains and especially MCU villains, it's so very easy to dismiss them and what they're saying. They all have some very ordinary, very stereotypical, world domination or revenge motives. But Erik Stevens isn't like that.

Some of the things he says makes sense, and it's very difficult to not empathize with a lot of what he's saying. Even if people don't agree with the ways in which he plans to carry out his mission, it is impossible to not see where it's coming from.

7 Thanos: The Mad Titan Rests After His Work Is Done

Thanos weakened after using the Infinity Stones a second time in Avengers Endgame

Even though many villains claim that after they achieve what they want, they'll give everything up, they usually just keep wanting more. It is with Thanos that viewers actually see what a villain looks like once he has accomplished what he wanted.

He has retired to a very simple life and is easily defeated and killed. He actually stops and takes rest after he finishes what he perceives his work to be.

6 Killmonger: There Is Redemption In His Death

The striking down of Killmonger doesn't come with the relief that one usually derives from seeing a villain defeated. Killmonger is not pure evil, and hence his death comes with a tinge of sadness. Even T'Challa isn't able to just kill him off that way.

Killmonger decides to die his own way, he refuses to stay alive only to be imprisoned for life. He chooses his own way to go. And there seems to be a promise of T'Challa actually doing something that Killmonger wants. His death is sympathetic and doesn't really feel like a victory.

5 Thanos: The Magnitude Of His Plan Is Awe-Inspiring

The scale of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame is so huge only because Thanos' plan was so immense. No other villain was able to create so much of a disturbance that required so many heroes to come together.

Thanos has slowly been laying out the foundation of his massive plan, and its execution is incredible, to say the least.

4 Killmonger: Michael B. Jordan

A lot of why Killmonger is such an incredible villain has to do with who plays him. In as much as Heath Ledger owned the role of the Joker in the Nolan trilogy of Batman movies, Michael B. Jordan completely embodies the role of Erik "Killmonger" Stevens. Jordan brings to the role an earnestness that draws people to him.

He's spiteful and powerful as well, and Jordan is able to capture that streak of malice very well too. Killmonger is a character who has seen struggle and pain, and Jordan brings this character to life in a way no one else could.

3 Thanos: Josh Brolin

The weight of the larger-than-life nature of this character is borne by Josh Brolin, who delivers an excellent performance. Brolin's portrayal of Thanos doesn't seem like the one-dimensional villains common to the MCU. He brings a certain sensitivity and nuance to the character that makes this huge purple being more humane, more believable.

Whether he's being emotional or he is ruthlessly killing, Brolin is able to make Thanos into a villain who can do both.

2 Killmonger: His Idea Is Eventually Carried Out, Albeit Differently

T'Challa is actually convinced of a lot of things after hearing what Killmonger had to say. Even though he disagrees with the means that Killmonger used, he understands his reasoning.

T'Challa is able to understand that he was wrong (and that his father and his father before him were wrong) to abandon their brothers and sisters. T'Challa is willing to acknowledge this and make amends, and it is mainly due to Killmonger. So Wakanda stops being an isolationist country and decides to help others as well, as Killmonger wanted.

1 Thanos: He Is Able To Wipe Out Half The Universe

Avengers Infinity War Thanos Snap

Even though most villains have plans of world domination, very rarely are they able to actually achieve it. Here is where Thanos differs. He actually does what he intended to do. He manages to get all the stones and he actually does wipe out half of the universe. It is incredible that he is able to achieve such a feat.

And even though the Avengers undo a lot in Avengers: Endgame, it is still quite a feat that many villains have never been able to achieve.
