The Infinity Stones were mysterious and ancient relics dating back to a time before the known universe was created. There were six in total and each one related to a different aspect of the universe: Space, Time, Reality, Power, Soul, and Mind. The Mind Stone has been around in the MCU since 2012, during the first Avengers film.

Each and every Stone has passed through many hands over the years, and the Mind Stone is no different. While not everyone who has come in contact with the Mind Stone has used it, it has had an effect on many characters in the MCU and beyond.

9 Thanos Uses It For A Couple Of Snaps

Everyone knows that Thanos uses the Mind Stone not only for the initial Snap that wipes out 50% of all life in the universe, but also for the second Snap that destroys the physical form of the Stones to prevent further usage. He ends up brutally murdering Vision for the Stone by ripping it directly from Vision's forehead.

Additionally, the Mind Stone is the only Stone that Thanos uses exclusively for the Snaps and nothing else. At this point in the MCU, it's still unknown what this Stone's inherent abilities truly are (same with the Soul Stone).

8 Hulk & Iron Man Use It For A Snap

Professor Hulk performing a Snap & Thanos dusting away

Tony and Bruce actually studied the Mind Stone when it was still in the scepter a few years before Thanos came to retrieve it. "Professor" Hulk was the second person to perform a Snap in the MCU after the Avengers retrieved the Stones from previous points in history. Hulk volunteered for the Snap as the radiation emitted from the Stones was gamma, the type that was already coursing through his veins. At the sacrifice of his right arm (permanently for now), he brought back everyone that had been Snapped away five years prior.

Iron Man was the last person to perform a Snap in the MCU after acquiring the Stones from Thanos with the help of his nano-tech. Though many of the other heroes handled the nano gauntlet during the final battle before Thanos finally got his hands on it. It was an iconic moment for the character and the MCU as a whole as Tony's final sacrifice ended the threat of Thanos, as well as Tony's run as Iron Man.

7 Loki Uses It During His Invasion Of Midgard

Loki attempting to convert Iron Man with the scepter

After Thanos so graciously lets Loki borrow the scepter containing the Mind Stone, Loki brings it to Midgard and begins to convert the most loyal of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, such as Hawkeye, to his side with a light tap of the scepter. Loki then brings Dr. Selvig over to his team to create the portal that lets the Chitauri into New York.

Loki also hilariously attempts to use the scepter to brainwash Tony at one point, but when he makes contact with the miniature arc reactor, nothing happens. Tony makes a quick joke before Loki tosses him through a window. While this scene was meant as a joke, perhaps nothing happening could indicate that the arc reactor's technology was influenced by Howard's research on the Tesseract, thus rendering the Mind Stone's power inert.

6 Baron Von Strucker & Hydra As A Whole (Including S.H.I.E.L.D.) Study It & Run Experiments

After Loki is thwarted by the Avengers, the scepter is taken into S.H.I.E.L.D. custody, but it was really Hydra without anyone realizing it. Over the years, both S.H.I.E.L.D. and Hydra agents have had their fair share of studying and testing with the scepter.

Most notably was Baron Wolfgang von Strucker, who was the last person to have the scepter before the Avengers arrived and took it off of his hands in Age of Ultron. Strucker committed many heinous medical experiments with the scepter, resulting in every volunteer dying, except for two.

5 Wanda Maximoff's Full Potential Was Unlocked By The Stone

The Scarlet Witch emanting from the Mind Stone in WandaVision

During the events of WandaVision, fans are shown a flashback of Wanda's experience with the Mind Stone during her days with Hydra. In a spectacular show of light and energy, Wanda appears to see a shadowy figure emanating from the Stone, later assumed to be the essence of the Scarlet Witch unlocking her latent potential.

Even after the destruction of the Stone and the death of Vision, Wanda remains as a physical totem for the energy and power of the Mind Stone. Wanda was able to manifest an entirely different reality for an entire small town (and surrounding area), complete with a protective barrier and lifelike Vision simply as a result of an emotional outburst and her connection with the Stone.

4 Pietro Maximoff Likely Had A Similar Experience (Yet To Be Confirmed)

Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in Avengers: Age of Ultron

While Pietro's story has yet to be told in the MCU, it is known that he experienced similar experimentation during his time with Hydra as well. However, as Pietro was not revealed to be a witch the entire time (like Wanda), it's unknown what the Mind Stone did when he was exposed to it.

Considering the X-Men have come home to Marvel Studios, it's possible that fans could finally get an explanation for Pietro's powers. However, with the multiverse being split wide open in the season finale of Loki, it seems unlikely that Marvel will rehash main timeline stories for secondary dead characters.

3 Ultron Removed The Stone From The Scepter (& Is Also A Product Of It)

The Mind Stone Coming out of Loki's Scepter

Ultron was the first being to realize that there was actually an Infinity Stone within the head of the scepter, except for maybe Thanos. Ultron breaks open the larger gem at the end of the scepter to reveal the mysterious Mind Stone before placing it in the future Vision's forehead.

It makes sense that Ultron would realize what was truly within the scepter considering Ultron was born from the knowledge that Tony acquired from studying the scepter. Utilizing the Mind Stone for his sinister scheme was a smart decision, luckily the Avengers were able to apprehend the Vibranium body and upload J.A.R.V.I.S. before Ultron could upload himself.

2 Vision Was A Part Of The Stone His Entire Life

MCU Vision

With the combined efforts of Tony, Bruce, and even Thor, Vision was born and quickly became an ally and asset to the Avengers. After a brief period of uncertainty, Vision made it clear that he was worthy of their trust by handing Mjolnir to Thor when not a single one of them was able to budge it earlier, except Steve, of course.

Vision housed the Mind Stone from the day he was born until the day he died, which was only about a three to four year period in the MCU. Perhaps with the introduction of White Vision in WandaVision and the revelation that the Mind Stone is still alive within Wanda, the original Vision may find a way to return.

1 Captain America Uses The Stone On Himself During The Time Heist

Captain America down on the floor

During the time heist in Endgame, the Avengers split up to retrieve the Infinity Stones at different points in the past. While the Tesseract was lost to a Loki Variant, Steve manages to track down and secure the scepter containing the Mind Stone. Using his knowledge of the future, he tricks Agent Sitwell into simply handing it to him by whispering "Hail Hydra."

However, he comes across his past self who thinks Steve is actually Loki in disguise. After a bit of a scuffle, future Steve turns the tide of the fight when he informs his past self that Bucky is still alive. Taking advantage of the brief hesitation, Steve warps his past self's mind with a tap of the scepter and knocks him out.
