The MCU is home to many of Marvel Comics' best superheroes, some of whom were relatively obscure until Hollywood's best actors brought them to life on the big screen. While Captain America and The Incredible Hulk were always fan-favorites, the character of Tony Stark/Iron Man needed the MCU to become truly mainstream.

Tony Stark, even without his suit, is a billionaire, genius, playboy, and philanthropist, and with the suit, he is the high-tech hero Iron Man and a longtime Avenger. He has all kinds of abilities in combat, ranging from high-speed flight and ranged repulsor attacks to advanced sensors and near-impervious armor plating. It's clear that only a small handful of MCU characters are on his level, while the rest have a lot of catching up to do.

10 ON IRON MAN'S LEVEL: Thor Is An Asgardian Prince

Thor with his hammer

The mighty Asgardian warrior Thor made his MCU debut in his 2010 movie, and he has been an Avengers staple ever since. He is far stronger, faster, and tougher than any mortal man, and he has the power of thunder and lightning on top of that.

Thor also wields the incredible war hammer Mjolnir, which can easily smash apart any foe at close or long-range and can easily summon lightning to fry Thor's enemies. Thor also has extensive battlefield experience, even more than both Iron Man and Captain America combined.

9 NOWHERE CLOSE: Captain America Lacks Ranged Firepower

Steve in his uniform

In nearly every regard, the super-soldier Steve Rogers/Captain America is exactly what the Avengers need, and the team wouldn't be the same without him. He has the noble and selfless heart of a true icon of justice and freedom, and his Vibranium shield can withstand any threat. Captain America is also a formidable martial artist and tactician.

All this is impressive, but in terms of raw combat power, Captain America still falls short of Iron Man, who has superior mobility and ranged attacks. What's more, Iron Man can modify and enhance his suits, while Cap is stuck using the same shield forever.

8 ON IRON MAN'S LEVEL: Scarlet Witch Wields Terrifying Power

Wanda MCU

Wanda Maximoff was introduced as a villain in 2015's The Avengers: Age of Ultron, but that didn't last very long. She soon switched sides and joined the Avengers after the demise of her brother Pietro, and up until her little detour in Westview, she was seen as a loyal Avenger.

Wanda lacks Iron Man's armor plating and sensors, but she does have incredible magic at her disposal, and she can move, protect, or destroy anything or anyone around her. Her powers seem to be growing, and she will soon have a role to play in the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

7 NOWHERE CLOSE: Sam Wilson/Falcon Is Iron Man Lite

MCU's Falcon

Sam Wilson/Falcon was a personal friend of Steve Rogers and is the current Captain American in the MCU. He is an Avenger who can soar over any battlefield and strafe the enemy with merciless fire. He gained his high-tech wings in 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and put them to good use in many movies beyond that.

Sam Wilson's flight, firearms, and remote drones give him an edge in many fights, but he simply cannot compare to Iron Man, who lacks his stealth but otherwise does everything he does, but better. Falcon lacks Iron Man's tough defenses, and his firearms can't possibly match Iron Man's most advanced weapons.

6 ON IRON MAN'S LEVEL: War Machine Is An Iron Man Variant

war machine Armed To The Teeth

Tony Stark's military friend Rhodey is Iron Man's equal for an obvious reason: he has an alternate Iron Man suit of his own. This particular suit puts more emphasis on bullets and missiles than energy weapons or nanotech, but for most battles, it's more than sufficient.

War Machine's suit boasts the same mobility and protection as Iron Man's own, and it also has advanced sensors and comm gear to match. This suit's weaponry can lay down withering firepower against any foe. Even Thanos' legions soon learned to fear what War Machine can do.

5 NOWHERE CLOSE: Star-Lord Is A Rogue, Not A Warrior

Star-Lord Milano Guardians of the Galaxy

Guardians of the Galaxy star Star-Lord/Peter Quill was abducted by Yondu Udonta and the Ravagers in the 20th century, and the boy was raised as a rogue and thief in outer space. Star-Lord certainly has his daddy issues, but at least he learned some vital skills for survival out there in the unforgiving universe.

Star-Lord is a resourceful and quick-thinking rogue with an affinity for starships, theft, and trickery, which makes him an exemplary Guardian of the Galaxy. None of this can rival what Iron Man can do, but Star-Lord is OK with that. He's confident in his own abilities.

4 ON IRON MAN'S LEVEL: Shang-Chi Now Has The Ten Rings

Shang-Chi wielding the ten rings in his debut movie

The martial artist Shang-Chi is one of the newest heroes of the MCU, and he already ranks among the strongest of them, since he obtained the legendary Ten Rings from his ancient father, Xu Wenwu. Shang-Chi is also a trained martial artist and assassin, though he didn't like being his father's tool in that regard.

With his bare fists alone, Shang-Chi is nowhere near Iron Man's level, but once he claimed the Ten Rings, that all changed. These incredible artifacts wield astonishing power for offense, defense, and mobility and that means Shang-Chi is definitely in Iron Man's league.

3 NOWHERE CLOSE: Black Widow Is An Assassin, Not An Armored Soldier

Black Widow in front of an explosion

Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff made her debut in 2010's Iron Man 2 as a supporting character, and her role in the MCU has slowly but steadily grown since then, leading up to her very own solo movie. She also took part in some of the most intense battles, including the fight for New York City and the battle against Ultron in Sokovia.

Black Widow is an expert martial artist and assassin, and she is also adept at infiltration and disguises, which helps her get an edge over more powerful enemies. Black Widow is a vital Avenger, but ultimately, she cannot match Iron Man's raw combat power. She needs more tech to compete with Iron Man.

2 ON IRON MAN'S LEVEL: Doctor Strange Is A Mystical Master

Doctor Strange In front of a portal

The master of the mystic arts Doctor Strange briefly assumed Tony Stark's role as Peter Parker's mentor and father figure in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and it's easy to see why. Doctor Strange is an aloof but noble hero who will always fight for what's right, and he has the power to back it up.

With or without the Time Stone, Doctor Strange is a formidable sorcerer and wields mind-bending magical spells to reshape the terrain, teleport around the battlefield, restrain his enemies, and more. Reality is his plaything, and that means he's easily on par with Iron Man, if not his superior.

1 NOWHERE CLOSE: Nebula Is A Cyborg Warrior

Nebula crouches down and prepares to fight

Nebula is one of Thanos' foster daughters, and Thanos often pitted her against Gamora to test their abilities. Nebula always lost, so Thanos kept modifying Nebulas' body to enhance her strength, and Nebula hated him for that. She sought revenge against her father at all costs.

Similar to Gamora, Nebula is an agile assassin who favors swords, but she can also fly ships and use ranged attacks if necessary. She seems nearly indestructible but can be immobilized or disabled. She is a formidable foe, but she's not in Iron Man's league, no matter how much Thanos modifies her.
