Captain America was the first true Marvel superhero. First appearing in 1941, the First Avenger had a few good years during World War II, then some years Marvel doesn't like to talk about in the 1950s, and then came back in the 1960s during the Marvel Age of Comics. From there, he joined the Avengers and became a mainstay all the way up until the present.

Even by superhero standards, Captain America is a man of principles, as he knows that his mantle is a symbol for an entire country. This has led him to clash with other heroes, particularly Iron Man, and even giving up the name of Captain America at several points. Many of these memorable stories were adapted into the MCU films with actor Chris Evans portraying the Sentinel of Liberty.

8 Spider-Man: Homecoming

Marvel hilariously teased fans awaiting the traditional end-credits scene at the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming. Captain America PSA's had already been referenced and shown at earlier points in the movie, but Marvel got one more in at the end of the credits with Cap telling audiences how disappointing it can be to wait and wait for something, only to be hopelessly disappointed.

This was a pretty solid joke, and it earns Spider-Man: Homecoming a place on this list. It is worth mentioning that Captain America actor Chris Evans did make a brief appearance in Thor: The Dark World when Loki made a mocking impression of Cap, but, since that wasn't technically Cap, it doesn't count here.

7 Avengers: Age of Ultron

While not that bad a film, on the whole, Avengers: Age of Ultron wasn't really an all-star moment for any of the Avengers cast outside of Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, and the Vision. The rivalry between Captain America and Iron Man begins to heat up--which makes sense considering that Tony Stark creates Ultron in this movie.

That said, we still get to see Cap save lives, kick robot butt, and be the larger-than-life hero we all expect him to be. He even fights Ultron one-on-one several times despite Ultron being way outside Cap's punching weight—because that's just who Cap is.

6 Captain America: The First Avenger

This one introduced Steve Rogers into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and most audiences to the endearing boy scout that is Captain America. The memorable line, "I don't want to kill anyone. I just don't like bullies. I don't care where they're from," is a perfect distillation of Captain America's character.

Of course, this movie also brings us the first on-screen appearance of Steve's best friend, Bucky Barnes, and Cap's archnemesis, the Red Skull. Both are given faithful representations as are supporting characters such as Peggy Carter, Arnim Zola, and the Howling Commandos. It's an all-around fun movie and a great first step for Cap on the big screen.

5 Avengers Assemble

Of course, the MCU really hit its stride with the release of Avengers, and Cap is no exception to that. Audiences get to see how this living legend interacts with the likes of Iron Man, Hulk, and Thor. This is also the first time we get to see on-screen Cap fight actual gods and aliens like Loki and the Chitauri.

This movie also set up the friction between Tony Stark and Steve Rogers—two men from very different times with very different views of how the world works. A rivalry was inevitable and will, of course, reach a fever pitch in just a couple more movies.

4 Avengers: Infinity War

Infinity War finds Steve Rogers without the shield and red, white, and blue costume. Here, he seems to be in the "Nomad, the Man Without a Country" persona. He's hiding out with other renegade Avengers and receiving help from the Black Panther and Wakanda.

This movie splits its attention in a lot of different ways, so Cap doesn't get to shine as much as he usually does. However, seeing Steve charge into the Outrider army alongside T'Challa and then taking on Thanos alone earns this film a high place on the list.

3 Captain America: Civil War

The aforementioned rivalry with Iron Man turns into outright conflict with Captain America: Civil War. The United Nations tries to turn the Avengers into their own private army, and Cap can't abide by that. Add to the mixture Baron Helmut Zemo framing the Winter Soldier for terrorist attacks and an unexpected connection between Bucky and the Starks, and you see that a showdown between Cap and Iron Man was inevitable.

Cap's loyalty and inability to back down are on full display here, and it makes the movie downright gut-wrenching when Cap and Iron Man have their one-on-one duel at the end of the film. Cap arguably has some of the best movies in the MCU under his belt, and this is definitely one of them.

2 Avengers: Endgame

Captain America wielding Mjolnir for the first time in Endgame

This one had to be near the top of the list because of one iconic moment that will live in superhero movie legend—Captain America being judged worthy to lift Thor's hammer, Mjolnir. Of course, Cap uses it to fight Thanos alone, despite the Mad Titan having just taken down Iron Man and Thor himself with relative ease.

Cap gets several great moments throughout the movie, and the character even gets a heart-warming ending that brings the story of Steve Rogers to a happy conclusion. This is another stellar movie for Captain America fans all-around, but it's still outshined by one other MCU entry.

1 Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Captain America: The Winter Soldier may just be one of the best MCU movies, period. It's a tight and tense spy thriller that introduces the Falcon into the MCU and finds Cap having to square off against his old best friend, Bucky Barnes, who has been brainwashed by Hydra and turned into the murderous Winter Soldier.

It's an emotional movie for Cap, and it shows just how loyal he is to his friends and his sense of right and wrong. That latter point finds Cap at odds with Nick Fury himself, and it ends with Steve and Black Widow helping to bring down S.H.I.E.L.D itself. This movie gets the character of Captain America and is such a faithful adaptation to Cap comics, particularly the Ed Brubaker era. It's an absolute joy to watch for any Captain America fan.
