Bill Murray's part in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania may be smaller than previously expected.

A rumor picked up by The Illuminerdi suggests Murray will play an obscure, green-skinned alien named Krylar in Quantumania. In the comics, Krylar is a K'aitian from the planet K'ai, which exists within the Microverse. Krylar's only appearance came in Incredible Hulk #156, where he aided the Hulk in his battle against a doppelganger Hulk. Unfortunately, Krylar was killed for his actions by Visis, a member of the royal family who was trying to dethrone Princess Jarella, the rightful ruler of K'ai and the Hulk's loving partner. Though this rumored role suggests Murray's stint in the Marvel Cinematic Universe may be brief, it could have big implications for Quantumania's plot.

In the MCU, the Microverse is known as the Quantum Realm, which is a dimension that exists in the space between atoms and is only accessible by shrinking down to subatomic size. In Ant-Man and the Wasp, Paul Rudd's Scott Lang traveled to the Quantum Realm to retrieve Michelle Pfeiffer's Janet Van Dyne, who was trapped there when her daughter Hope was a child. This journey helped Ant-Man increase the scale of his size-changing abilities, becoming the first person to travel between realms with ease.

News that Murray would join the MCU for Quantumania surfaced in October, though neither Murray nor Rudd have officially commented on the casting. In fact, both have played incredibly coy, with Rudd even suggesting there may have been some confusion stemming from both actors appearing in Ghostbusters: Afterlife. For Murray's part, he said he'd joined a Marvel movie from the director of Bring It On, which is Peyton Reed, who also directs the Ant-Man films.

With or without Murray, Quantumania looks to have a star-studded cast. In addition to Rudd and Pfeiffer's returns, the film will feature Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne/Wasp, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, Kathryn Newton as Cassie Lang and Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror, reprising the role after an appearance in Loki's Season 1 finale. Rumors also suggest a familiar face could return to the MCU, this time as M.O.D.O.K.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania arrives in theaters on July 28, 2023.
