There are always changes made when any adaptation occurs, even with something as big as Marvel. We've seen countless characters altered, either slightly or dramatically, in order for them to fit into the MCU.

We've also seen plots and weapons changed for the sake of the MCU as well. Some of the changes are easy to overlook, while others have forced readers to do a double-take. Here are ten of the biggest changes we've seen so far.

10 Yondu's Yaka Arrows

All fans can agree that the way Yondu handled his arrows during Guardians of the Galaxy was very impressive. Though many will likewise agree that the way they look and act in the movies is quite a bit different from the way they handle in the comics.

The biggest change made to the arrows is their effectiveness. We see Yondu take out an entire squad – including the ship – all on his own. If he was able to do that in the comics, there's a good chance he'd be able to rule whatever little world he chose.

9 The Destroyer

The Destroyer vs Thor in the first Thor film

While some weapons were made stronger for the MCU, others were made to appear weaker. The Destroyer made a grand appearance in the first Thor movie but ultimately went down easier than many fans expected – even up against Thor himself.

The Destroyer's other name is the Indestructible, which should give you a pretty good idea of what it can and cannot withstand. It's been a significant threat time and time again. And even when it is taken down, it always is back in working order in a shockingly short amount of time.

8 Gungnir

Most Asgard weapons have a name. This isn't terribly surprising. And naturally, one would assume that each named weapon has its own abilities. And for the most part, this is relatively true. One of the named weapons we see in the MCU was not shown with great effect, however.

Gungnir is the spear of Odin. You'll see lots of shots with him holding the weapon, but relatively few of him fighting with it. And it's a shame. Like Mjolnir, it is made up of Uru, and will return to his hand when summoned. The spear is also a symbol of Odin's power and status, so having it shown does complete Odin's look if nothing else.

7 Hawkeye's Bow And Arrows

This may come as a shock to some, but Hawkeye has a huge variety of arrows in his arsenal. Many were shown during the Avengers movies – yet they barely even began to scratch the surface. There's a reason that Hawkeye manages to hold his own, even when up against gods and monsters.

There are certain arrows that Hawkeye always seems to have on hand: sonic, explosive-tip, smoke bomb, tear gas, suction cup, acid, cable, putty, bola, electro-disruptor, boomerang, rocket, and net arrows, just to name a few. When given a fair warning on what he's up against, Clint can change out his arrows cache. He's even been known to have a magically imbued arrow or two.

6 Cap's Shield

Captain America's Shield faced a few changes when going from the comics to the MCU. It still looks the same, thank goodness. And it still seems to function the same, more or less. The biggest change to the Shield is the backstory and the composite elements.

In the movies, the Shield's origin and basic components aren't expounded upon too much. We know that it's made up of Vibranium, and are even led to assume that this is all that makes it up. Meanwhile, in the comics, the shield is of a Vibranium-Steel alloy. And we know a bit more about it's past, as well as knowing that Wakandan technology is capable of repairing the shield when damaged or destroyed.

5 Hofund

Heimdall Holding Hofund

Hofund is another named Asgardian weapon. This weapon belongs to Heimdall – it's the massive sword that we've seen him wield so dramatically. The weapon itself is more or less portrayed the way fans expected, though they seem to have left out a few of the abilities it grants.

For one thing, Hofund allows Heimdall to be camouflaged to fit in with human society. It can also burst into bright blue flames (of the cosmic stars, of course).

4 Black Panther Suit

We could list all of the different suits of armor our heroes wore during the MCU, but really, it's T'Challa's suit that should be mentioned here. While many fans adore the suit and the way it was presented, the fact remains that we still have a lot to see from this particular suit.

The Black Panther suit comes from some of the best minds in the world when it comes to tech. As such, the suit is full of little surprises. For example, there is a supercomputer within the confines of the suit. The suit can also do short-range teleportation (at times). We've also yet to see the energy shield or daggers the suit can produce.

3 Mjolnir

All of the major points of Mjolnir were more or less represented in the MCU. But that doesn't mean they didn't change it. Because trust us, they did. In the comics it's been made very clear that Mjolnir has one very special feature the MCU overlooked: it contains the heart of a storm.

In the comics, Mjolnir contains a powerful storm known as the God Tempest. Once Odin defeated the storm, he had the dwarves craft it into the hammer we know so well. Otherwise, Mjolnir seems to act as we expected.

2 Stormbreaker

Stormbreaker in the MCU is a bit different from Stormbreak in the comics, though the difference may not be what you expect: the owner. In the MCU, Stormbreaker was made as a replacement for Thor, after Mjolnir had been destroyed in a previous movie.

But in the comics, Stormbreaker actually belonged to a completely different character, Beta Ray Bill. You see, Beta Ray himself was also worthy to carry Mjolnir – and he even had a need for it – but he was unwilling to take it from Thor. So they commissioned another weapon to serve in it's place, as is only right.

1 Godslayer

Gamora holding Godslayer

Gamora's sword is another weapon that changed between the comics and the MCU. Some fans credit the change to the fact that Gamora had to fit into a team, and thus her weapon could not be too overpowered. There's also the fact that some elements of the sword might have been a bit more difficult to explain, especially in the timeframe given.

Godslayer is a weapon that will appear as the wielder needs it, though in slightly different ways than seen in Mjolnir. However, in the MCU it's shown as having a collapsing ability, so perhaps that is just as good.
