The eight DigiDestined of Digimon Adventure are unique and an iconic bunch of kids, with personalities as diverse and memorable as their Digimon partners. For those unaware, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) consists of 16 distinct personality types. Each type has four components that indicate a specific aspect of a person’s personality. These components are:

Extraversion (E) or Introversion (I): Whether someone draws their energy from people and external situations (E), or internal situations and ideas (I).

Sensing (S) or Intuition (N): Whether a person focuses more on their five senses and the world around them to interpret information (S), or on looking beyond and finding their own meaning to interpret information (N).

Thinking (T) or Feeling (F): Whether a person looks at logic and facts when making decisions (T), or at people and values (F).

Judging (J) or Perceiving (P): Whether a person prefers to have things organized and structured (J), or open to change and new possibilities (P).

With that explained, it’s time to dive into the MBTI of the DigiDestined!

8 TAI - ESTP

taichi yagami surprised from digimon adventure

Tai is the leader of the group, and the original “goggle kid”. He has no issue stating his opinion or making decisions. He trusts himself and his own experiences over the possibilities of what could happen, which sometimes lands him in trouble. When he focuses on doing something, nothing and no one, human or Digimon, can stop him.

While he wants to be a good leader and does care about his group, his decisions are often based on what he thinks is best. These decisions often overlook others and their feelings, and this sometimes causes fights in the group, mostly with Matt. Tai’s not that tactful, and he bluntly tells the truth, whether others want it or not. Tai also prefers to adapt to situations as they unfold rather than create overly complicated plans. This can be either a boon to the DigiDestined or a hinderance, either helping them win fights, or causing new problems to arise.

7 MATT - ISFJ

Matt is considered the loner of the DigiDestined kids. He likes and treasures his friends, but he often needs to take time alone to recharge and think. He’s also very grounded in the world around him. It’s one of the reasons why the other kids look to him in times of crisis. While he tends to keep his feelings and any problems to himself, Matt thinks and internalizes a lot.

He thinks about his brother, T.K., about his team, about his role and Crest of Friendship. He’s observant of the feelings of those around him, and it often causes him to butt heads with Tai. While Matt is flexible and open to new options, he tends to be very task-oriented and organized, which makes him look more mature than the other DigiDestined.

6 SORA - ENFJ

Sora is a people person, even if she doesn’t believe it. She truly cares about the well-being of those around her, and she often acts as the team “mom”. Even when she heads off by herself after the group defeats Etemon and Tai disappears, Sora is never far from her friends.

She stays in the shadows, but she is still looking out for her fellow DigiDestined and helping whenever she can. She likes to make sure that everyone in the group is happy, and she hates feeling like she let the others down. She’s very tactful when handling situations, and she always listens to others' feelings and opinions. She can act on impulse, but she likes to have a set plan when dealing with a situation.

5 IZZY - ISTJ

Izzy prefers the company of computers and gadgets over people. He tends to internalize things; when he found out that he was adopted, he kept it to himself and didn’t reveal that he knew until much later. When making decisions, he does so purely on the information and facts given to him. He thinks things through, and his choices are based on logic as opposed to personal feelings.

His preference for the truth does cause him to be rather blunt and insensitive to the feelings of those around him. He’s incredibly task-oriented, preferring to stick to plans rather than improvise. He likes to have his life as controlled as his computer programs, after all.

4 MIMI - ENFP

Mimi, oh Mimi. The dub did you dirty with your personality and turned you into an airhead. Mimi thrives in and around human contact. She is a people person through and through. She lives in the moment of what she can experience, but she is also insightful when the situation calls for it.

After all, she was the one who wanted to organize all of the DigiDestined’s Digimon allies for the final fight against the Dark Masters. Her choices tend to focus on her feelings, values, and relationships. While she isn’t afraid to dish out the hard, blunt truth (she IS the Crest of Sincerity), she also values the group’s harmony and her own feelings over facts.

3 JOE - INTJ

Joe is a very anxious person. He worries about anything and everything, and these anxieties affect how he perceives the Digital World. Everything is a danger, and Joe sees all of the terrible (and sometimes, improbable) possibilities that could arise in any situation.

He is logical like Izzy, and he is quick to point out inconsistencies or oddities around the Digital World, which happens to be everything. He likes plans, organization and having things decided. Joe's very focused on his work and grades, and he believes that work comes before play. He comes from a family of doctors, and he feels pressured to be a doctor as well, so he spends his free time studying. When planning for situations, Joe always has a backup plan, and then, a backup plan for that backup plan.

2 T.K. - ESFP

T.K. is a young kid who just wants to help others and do his part to contribute to the team. He wants to experience and explore all that the Digital World has to offer. He is full of child-like wonder, hope, and excitement, but he can make surprisingly mature decisions when the situation calls for it. He wants to make sure that everyone gets along, and he hates it when the DigiDestined argue.

He really wants to prove himself to his older brother, Matt. He doesn't always adhere to plans, and he's able to improvise to situations and new problems, such as when Puppetmon kidnapped him. He can be decisive when he has to be, but T.K. would rather have the older kids make the decisions so that he can have fun.

1 KARI - INFJ

Kari was the last member to join the DigiDestined, but she made her mark. She likes people, and she does want to help others, but she often gets her energy from ideas and information as opposed to people. She’s willing to look into the unknown without fear, and she has experienced things that none of the other Digidestined have; at multiple points, she allowed a mysterious light to possess her.

Kari cares about those around her, and she makes decisions based on what she believes is right. Despite her young age, Kari is more organized and thoughtful than her older brother, Tai. She even seems more mature than others her age. Kari is focused on her goals, and she won’t let anything stop her once she sets her mind to it.
