The Mayans Meet With the Sons of Anarchy

"When the Breakdown Hit at Midnight" opens with the Santo Padre Mayans burying Coco, who was killed by the Sons of Anarchy earlier in the season. Angel, for his part, keeps his distance, likely still ashamed of having slept with Coco's daughter, Letty, after his death. Letty eventually goes off on the Mayans, saying that they didn't deserve Coco and that she can never forgive them for what happened. After the funeral, Angel returns home to Adelita and baby Maverick. Adelita asks about the funeral, and Angel confirms it was bad. The family embrace, with Angel taking a lot of joy in his son.

Mayans M.C. then cuts to Tig Trager visiting Terry in the hospital after Santo Padre nearly killed the Sons of Anarchy member in its attack on UC Davis. Tig lays into Terry about starting the war with the Mayans and mentions the latter's sponsor has returned. Tig begins choking Terry, but he stops when a nurse interrupts them.

Elsewhere, Jay-Jay and EZ meet. EZ offers him $80,000 in exchange for helping him tie up a loose end. EZ then pulls a gun on Jay-Jay, declaring him to be that loose end. He tells Jay-Jay that if he shoots himself, his family will get $80,000. If EZ shoots him, they'll get nothing. Jay-Jay tries to reason with EZ, saying he saved him in prison and that he has a family. Jay-Jay says the harm EZ's doing will weigh on his soul, but the Mayan says it won't. Jay-Jay then puts the gun under his chin, but decides not to shoot himself. He aims the gun at EZ, who shoots him dead.

Alvarez and Tig eventually meet in Los Angeles, as it's between Santo Padre and Charming. Tig informs Alvarez that the war started because of Alessandro Montez's kutte and body being found on Santo Padre property. Alvarez says he doesn't know anything about that, but it's clear he's going to look into things more. The conversation then turns to war itself, and Alvarez and Tig prove opposites. The former is tired of battle and death, while the latter seems happy with the opportunity. It's also here we learn that Terry's sponsor is the younger brother of Les Packer, the San Bernardino Sons of Anarchy leader. The two part with a hug, knowing the next time they meet might not be so friendly.

Mayans Meetings Go Very Wrong

At a restaurant, the various non-Santo Padre Mayans group meet. They believe the Reyes brothers killed Canche. However, before they can decide on any definite action, the Sons of Anarchy attack, taking the Mayans prisoner. Later, it's revealed Isaac -- the antagonist of Coco's Meth Mountain plot last season -- is Terry's sponsor and a member of the Sons of Anarchy. Isaac was presumed dead after having been shot in the throat by Coco at the end of last season. Isaac murders Manny but spares another Mayan, allowing him to serve as a messenger about the "fire" that is coming.

Manny isn't the only one who meets an unfortunate end in "When the Breakdown Hit at Midnight." After revealing that she's an officer to Creeper, Kody meets with her former lover, saying she can protect him. However, she says they have more than enough information to take down both Creeper and the Santo Padre club. She also notes someone at the Santo Padre club was working with the police at one point, but she doesn't know who. Still, Kody says that, if Creeper cooperates, they may be able to still have a relationship in the future. Later, Creeper meets with the police. However, instead of selling out the club, he confesses to the group's crimes, listing the deaths the police are investigating and claiming he did them without Santo Padre's knowledge or involvement. Creeper will almost certainly be going to jail for the rest of his life.

Not everything is totally terrible, though. After getting a speech from Louie about Coco's love for her, Letty gets her dead father's car. She then goes and gets Hope off the street, stopping her just before she shoots up again.

Santo Padre Gets a New President

Outside the Santo Padre clubhouse, EZ and Alvarez talk about the latter's meeting with Tig. The latter remains against war and making a deal with Miguel Galindo and Soledad. However, the former believes it's the only way to keep the club from dying. EZ is so convinced that he goes and recruits Bishop to his side for a move against Alvarez.

And making that deal even sweeter, Adelita kills El Banquero in his pool. She then walks over to Soledad. As they look out on the landscape, Soledad says that the future is now beginning. Elsewhere, Miguel calls Emily Galindo from Erin's cellphone. Miguel tells her that he forgives her and asks for her to come home again. He also reveals he's got his son, Cristobal, back. After the conversation, Emily breaks down and screams in tears.

That's not all for Miguel in "When the Breakdown Hit at Midnight." The Galindo Cartel leader confronts Felipe Reyes at his butcher shop, looking to get revenge for the murder of Dita Galindo. Miguel brags that he's going to make sure the Reyes brothers understand what it is to be an orphan, and that they'll also die soon. However, Felipe asks Miguel to spare his children, revealing that he's Miguel's father.

Elsewhere, EZ and Sofia are riding his motorcycle when they're attacked by a car filled with Sons of Anarchy. EZ gets the best of them, but Sofia throws up afterwards.

At temple later, the Santo Padre Mayans declare they still want revenge, but Alvarez wants peace, saying there's now a ceasefire with the Sons of Anarchy. Isaac's attack is billed as the actions of a rogue group. EZ refuses to accept anything less than surrender and soon brings up the kill switch, which allows a charter to remove a president via unanimous vote. Although Angel seemingly hesitates, the club votes to remove Alvarez, choosing war over peace. The Godfather of the Mayans storms out, angry at their decision. At home, he later leaves his kutte on his motorcycle, closing the garage door on it.

EZ steps up to president in Alvarez's place, making Bishop his vice president, citing his experience and leadership ability. The new president then takes the Santo Padre throne and announces his first order business is that they'll be working with Galindo and Soledad to move more heroin than ever before. With the money from that operation, they'll soon control California. Afterwards, Angel confronts his brother, questioning his actions and what he's become. EZ, though, tells Angel to walkaway if he's not all-in, which the latter Reyes understands as a threat.

Mayans M.C. also shows a very literal example of how EZ's actions are affecting people by having Jay-Jay's wife try and visit him in his trailer. She finds Sofia, who claims EZ was with her when he was supposed to be meeting with Jay-Jay. It's clear the loss of Jay-Jay will ruin his wife's life, but Sofia doesn't seem to care.

As Season 4 ends, Mayans M.C. cuts to EZ in bed with Sofia, looking smug about what he's done. However, while he's in bed, a mysterious man burns all the heroin in Galindo and Soledad's warehouse.
