2012's Max Payne 3 is yet another highly detailed cinematic experience from the team at Rockstar Games. Now, years after its release and final updates, Rockstar sneakily gave all of Max Payne 3's downloadable content away for free on PC, making this the ideal time to revisit the game.

The DLC was quietly given to owners via a sneaky patch on Steam, as was L.A. Noire's DLC. While Max Payne 3 didn't have the story DLC like L.A. Noire did, it did have some exciting multiplayer and deathmatch content that's sure to keep players occupied.

Deathmatch Made in Heaven

max payne 3 feature 3

This DLC includes four co-op and competitive modes for Max Payne 3's multiplayer along with new weapons to use, like the cattle prod. Players gained access to the Deadman Walking co-op mode, where players fight against waves of enemies as Max and Passos alongside Run and Stun mode, which lets players play as Saci. Both of these, alongside two others, make for great ways to switch up Max Payne 3 from its traditional play style.

Painful Memories

Made to invoke the traumas of Max's past, players can revisit the subway bloodbath from the original Max Payne game. This DLC pack has four new multiplayer maps like Shoot First, which allows players to wreak havoc on the Branco family's yacht, and two new assault rifles. All in all, the Painful Memories pack is great for fans of the series and gives the game a fresher, bloodier feel.

Hostage Negotiation

With a new M24 sniper rifle and an IA2 assault rifle, players can shoot through these new multiplayer maps and experience the Filhos De Ogum avatar faction. Focusing more on intense nightclub and stadium shoot-outs, this DLC gives players unique contexts for gunfights. It also features new Favela territories in high detail with new items. The latter includes the Bomb Suit item and the Intimidation mask.

Local Justice

In this DLC pack, there are three more multiplayer maps and an M4 assault rifle. The new avatars featured are the Sao Paulo police along with associated achievements, trophies and grinds. Drawing from the campaign's final chapters, this DLC also provides the Light Fingers loadout item. These maps are compatible with all game modes like team deathmatch and Payne killer.

Disorganized Crime

Max Payne DIves

The Disorganized Crime Pack for Max Payne 3 allows players to battle in the Hoboken Rooftops multiplayer map, placing them right above the streets surrounding Max's old apartment. It also feature modifiers for Score Attack in arcade mode, like explosive and incendiary rounds. It also adds Lone Wolf AI, which is for more aggressive enemies and the Head Shots Only game type.

Special Edition and Bonuses

Max Payne 3

The Special Edition pack comes with a classic character set, enabling players to control fan favorites like Mona Sax, Max from Max Payne 2 and Vladimir Lem. It also features awesome weapons like the G9 grenade which were originally only available in Max Payne 3 Special Edition. Alongside this, there are other bonus DLC items like the Cemetery map, Silent Killer loadout pack, classic Max Payne avatar, pill bottle item and deadly force burst. All of these were initially pre-order and retail DLC exclusives.

Gorilla Warfare Pack

Max Payne Shoots someone

The Gorilla Warfare Pack changes how Max Payne 3 feels by adding three new items that customize players' loadouts. The Gorilla Mask item gives extra adrenaline for melee kills from behind. The Lucky Coin item gives extra cash when looting bodies. The Booby Trap item makes it so that enemies looting the player's body trigger an explosion.

Ultimately, the Max Payne 3 DLC adds a breath of fresh air into this iconic and dormant shooter. With the game seeing new life thanks to this update, perhaps the return of Max Payne is on the horizon yet again.
