Gorr the God Butcher is about to break large with his role in Thor: Love And Thunder. Fans are going to want to know what he's capable of, and the best place to look for that is the comics. Gorr was once a regular alien until receiving All-Black The Necrosword, a Klyntar symbiote that could kill gods. With that power, Gorr spent three millennia destroying gods before biting off more than he could chew against Thor.

Gorr the God Butcher's power made him a cosmic predator like few others. While Thor was eventually able to defeat him — more because of his ingenuity than power — there are plenty of powerful Marvel characters who would fall before the God Butcher's might.

10 Gorr Can Kill Celestials

A group of Celestials from Marvel Comics

The Celestials are the shepherds of life in the Marvel Universe and among the most powerful cosmic beings ever. Their bodies are nigh-impenetrable shells filled with their energies, and they can do just about anything. While they're most known for genetic tinkering, any Celestial is powerful enough to destroy entire solar systems with little trouble. Gorr has killed them in the past.

The Necrosword is the most powerful symbiote in existence and was tailor-made by Knull for destroying the most potent beings. During his millennia-long rampage, Gorr killed Celestials, which really puts into context just how dangerous he was.

9 Silver Surfer Would Fall To Gorr's Power

Silver Surfer flys around in space in the Marvel comic storyline, Communion

Silver Surfer's mastery of the Power Cosmic has made him one of the universe's foremost defenders. There are few beings out there who can contest with him in a straight-up fight who aren't gods, and even they have problems. He's faced All-Black the Necrosword before, but in the hands of Knull, and it was able to trump his power.

Gorr may not have been as powerful as Knull, the All-Black's creator, but he faced gods and powerful beings for millennia. The All-Black has proven able to defeat Silver Surfer, so Gorr, who is used to using it to destroy superlatively powerful foes, could defeat Silver Surfer.

8 Odin Would Definitely Lose To Gorr

Odin's anger at having to be the villain

Odin is ostensibly the most powerful god in Asgard, but he ends up dying a lot. The Odinforce is still a potent power, and the father of Thor has millions of years of combat experience to call upon, so he can do a lot of damage when he needs to. However, Odin is basically a glass cannon: powerful enough to challenge enemies but unable to stand against them for long.

Gorr would brutalize Odin. Odin's best years are far behind him. Even with the Odinforce on his side, he's died way more than he's won in recent years. At best, he dies winning. Odin might get a few good attacks in, but Gorr would shrug them off and destroy the King of Asgard.

7 Apocalypse's Power Pales In Comparison To The All-Black

An image of Apocalypse standing over fallen opponents in Marvel's X of Swords

Apocalypse has been slaughtering the weak for millennia. In fact, his quest to prove that only the fit deserve to survive has been going on for as long as Gorr's god butchery did. Apocalypse's mutant powers are multi-faceted and powerful, enhanced by the Celestial technology he found. He's destroyed entire civilizations, yet he'd fall to the God Butcher.

Apocalypse's Celestial armor protects him from just about all harm, but the All-Black can pierce it. That takes away Apocalypse's greatest advantage in the fight. Gorr would be able to take him apart, cutting him to ribbons before the mutant could get too much offense in.

6 Thanos Would Be In For A Surprise Against Gorr

Eternals Thanos Druig Prime-Eternal 3

Thanos has a massive ego, but he's earned it. There are few beings more dangerous in the entire universe, and he's cut a bloody swath of destruction across the cosmos. His quests for ultimate power have pitted him against the most powerful forces in the Marvel Universe, and he was always able to triumph, but the bearer of the All-Black could destroy him.

Thanos and Gorr make an interesting match because Gorr isn't going to be able to dominate Thanos like he has others. In fact, this is a fight that Thanos could win under the right circumstances. However, the same can be said of Gorr. Gorr has the power and skill to defeat Thanos if it comes down to it.

5 Black Bolt's Power Couldn't Save Him From The All-Black

Blackagar Boltagon, aka Black Bolt, his fork glowing with energy In Marvel Comics

Black Bolt has defeated many powerful enemies over the years. The Inhuman monarch's voice is his most devastating weapon, but it's the only one in his arsenal. He's a keen strategist, smart enough to defeat enemies that should be able to destroy him. While his voice would usually be enough against Klyntar symbiotes, the All-Black is special.

The All-Black fears extreme heat and sound, but they don't hurt it. This is going to give Gorr the advantage he needs to win. He can withstand Black Bolt's most powerful attacks, and he is stronger and more experienced. These factors would allow Gorr to defeat Black Bolt.

4 Gorr Could Make Galactus Taste Defeat

Galactus sits on his throne watching the planets in Marvel Comics

Galactus is one of the most powerful cosmic beings out there. Galactus is the universe's apex predator, his entire existence devoted to destroying planets. He wields the full might of the Power Cosmic, and there are few mortals in existence that can vie with him. Gorr, however, would be able to do more than just contest the World Devourer.

Galactus is tough, but the All-Black can hurt Celestials. Galactus often underestimates beings who he sees as below him, as well, which is going to give Gorr the chance he needs. By the time Galactus realizes how much trouble he's in, it will be much too late.

3 The Hulk Wouldn't Last Long Against Gorr

The Hulk is incredibly strong and the most dangerous person on Earth in a fight. Fueled by rage, the only way to beat the Hulk is to take him down before he gets too strong, something that most enemies have found impossible. The amount of damage it takes to defeat the Hulk is off the charts, but Gorr could easily dish it out.

The All-Black is certainly powerful enough to hurt the Hulk, which will make all the difference. Gorr once defeated a god strong enough to wrestle black holes, so the Hulk's strength would not daunt him. A fight between Gorr and Hulk would be short, and the Jade Giant would be on the losing end.

2 Loki Doesn't Stand A Chance Against Gorr

Marvel Voices: Pride cover art takes Loki across Asgard's Rainbow Bridge

Loki is one of Marvel's most important villains. He's battled the greatest heroes ever, his magic, cunning, and surprising strength and fighting skill serving him well. The God of Mischief depends on his wits as much as anything else, and he's as dangerous as they come. Unfortunately for him, he's nothing Gorr hasn't faced before.

Loki is powerful, but Gorr has killed countless gods over the years. He's almost certainly faced down many cunning gods like Loki. He wouldn't fall for the God of Mischief's tricks and take the fight to him. Loki is good, but Gorr would carve him up.

1 Hercules's Limited Offense Would Phase Gorr

Hercules braces himself for combat

Hercules is the most powerful Olympian. The son of Zeus has proven to be a greater hero than anyone imagined, his titanic strength, invulnerability, and experience serving him well. He's faced down the greatest threats alongside the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy, and he fears nothing. He's a tough fighter, but that won't cut it against Gorr.

Hercules can fight with the best of them, but his entire offense is built around being strong. He has no ranged attacks and can't really match Gorr's strength. He'd do his best against Gorr, but he'd fall far short, losing the fight rather quickly, all things considered.
