Kingsman: The Golden Circle director Matthew Vaughn has confirmed a months-old report that he's met with Warner Bros. about the sequel to 2013's Man of Steel.

While speaking with HeyUGuys about his plans after The Golden Circle, Vaughn acknowledged that he's begun preliminary work on a third Kingsman film, and then added, "I don’t know what I’m going to do next, but I have had chats about Superman. I love Superman."

Although it had been widely assumed that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice had taken the place of a direct sequel to Man of Steel, Henry Cavill's agent revealed a year ago that the project is still in development. That was confirmed by Lois Lane actress Amy Adams.

Vaughn, whose credits include X-Men: First Class, Kick-Ass and Kingsman: The Secret Service, was reported in March to be in talks to director Man of Steel 2. However, there had been no confirmation of that until now.

The filmmaker revealed in 2010 that he had a "brief chat" with Warner Bros. about a Superman pitch he put together with comics writer Mark Millar (Kick-Ass, Kingsman) two years earlier in the wake of Superman Returns. The studio, of course, ultimately went with what became Man of Steel, based on a story by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer.

Opening Sept. 22, Kingsman: The Golden Circle stars Colin Firth, Julianne Moore, Taron Egerton, Mark Strong, Halle Berry, Elton John, Channing Tatum and Jeff Bridges.
