While Aquaman continues its impressive box office run worldwide, forging a new future for the DC Extended Universe, promos for its tie-in action figure line from Mattel are a real blast from the past.

Featuring the toy manufacturer's six-inch action figure line, the promo shows Aquaman riding into battle against Orm as part of a two-figure set with Arthur Curry coming with an 18-inch warrior shark. The full promo for the figures is below:

With its enthusiastic announcer, faux backgrounds and mock battles between its heroes and villains, the new promo evokes the classic action figure commercials of yesteryear, including a 1984 commercial for tie-in toys by Kenner for the animated series Super Friends: The Legendary Super Powers Show produced by Hanna-Barbera from 1984 to 1985.

On track to become the first DCEU film to earn $1 billion at the global box office, Aquaman has already proved a massive hit with audiences, wearing its 80s influences, including a Pitbull cover of Toto's "Africa," on its sleeve. Judging by the new promo, the throwback inspiration has carried to marketing for its merchandising.
