Damon, Affleck to Reunite for Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel Adaptation

It’s been a hot minute since Ben Affleck and Matt Damon appeared in the same film. The actors were once a pairing frequently sought by studios after the Oscar-winning success of 1997’s Good Will Hunting. It’s rare to see the two in the same movie these days, but that’s about to change. Both Damon and Affleck have been recruited to star in Ridley Scott’s upcoming film The Last Duel.

The film is based on the Eric Jager book The Last Duel: A True Story of Crime, Scandal, and Trial by Combat in Medieval France, which recounts the story of a knight who battles a squire after the squire supposedly violates the knight’s wife. The entire film takes place in 14th century France and is based on a true story.

Scott is perhaps best known for his work on films like Alien, Thelma & Louise and Gladiator, though his filmography is expansive and filled with blockbusters of differing genres. Scott and Damon recently worked together on the film adaptation of The Martian, an outer space survival story about an astronaut who ends up stranded on Mars.

The film will be directed by Scott and written by Damon, Affleck and Nicole Holofcener, whose writing credits include Enough Said and Can You Ever Forgive Me?
