When asked about a recent issue of NFTs to promote the release of The Matrix Resurrections, lead actor Keanu Reeves laughed at the concept.

Reeves and his Matrix Resurrections co-star Carrie-Anne Moss were interviewed by The Verge about technology and how the line between the real and digital worlds are being blurred. When asked about the concept of digital scarcity, NFTs and how they can't be copied, Reeves quickly points out that they are "usually reproduced" instead and laughed.

Recently, a batch of 100,000 The Matrix Resurrections NFTs costing $50 each were minted to promote the release of the movie. On hearing the figures involved, Reeves turned to Moss and asked, "Do we get a cut of that?" before realizing that was unlikely. "Actually, I don't think we're in them. They probably did other people," Reeves said.

Reeves and Moss reunite as Neo and Trinity, respectively, in the final trailer for The Matrix Resurrections. The trailer teases more of the romantic relationship between the two characters while also calling back to the original trilogy. The Matrix Resurrections is set 20 years after The Matrix Revolutions and trailers suggest Neo has returned to his life outside of the Matrix as Thomas A. Anderson, until he is once again pulled back in by Morpheus.

The first Matrix was released in 1999 and the final movie in the original trilogy, The Matrix Revolutions, came out in 2003. Reeves explained his reasons for returning to the world of The Matrix after so many years by saying, "We had filmmakers who you wanted to say yes to. [We had] material that you wanted to commit to, to give everything that you could to."

The Matrix Resurrections is the fourth movie in The Matrix franchise and Reeves said that he was "struck by how much humor is in it." He described the movie as "throwing down The Matrix gauntlet again; it's super smart, clever, entertaining, suspenseful, and funny."

Fans of the franchise also have The Matrix Awakens tech demo to enjoy. Available for free download on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, the demo allows players to move freely around an impressively detailed world as they help Trinity escape from a group of deadly agents. According to developers, Epic Games, The Matrix Awakens is a "boundary-pushing technical demo [that] is an original concept set within the world of Warner Bros' The Matrix." It's written and directed by Lana Wachowski, co-writer and director of The Matrix Resurrections and one-half of the Wachowski siblings who wrote and directed the original The Matrix trilogy.

The Matrix Resurrections debuts in theaters and on HBO Max on Dec. 22.
