With a fourth Matrix film officially confirmed to be in development last month, returning star Keanu Reeves has revealed that he has indeed read the completed script for the planned sequel.

While appearing on the red carpet to support the release of his sister and producer Karina Miller's latest film Semper Fi, Reeves was asked about the announced film, admitting he is "absolutely" excited about returning to the role of Neo while also teasing the scope of the sequel's story.

"It's very ambitious," Reeves told Entertainment Tonight. "As it should be!"

Details on the upcoming film are still being kept under wraps, but Reeves will be joined by co-star Carrie-Anne Moss, co-director Lana Wachowski and several members of the trilogy's original crew. The production is reportedly looking for a younger actor to portray Morpheus in an unknown capacity.

Officially confirmed to be in active development last month after years of rumors and speculation, the fourth Matrix is expected to begin principal photography in early 2020 , though no release date has been announced by Warner Bros. In the meantime, Reeves has just wrapped principal photography on another eagerly anticipated sequel, Bill & Ted Face the Music, reteaming with co-star Alex Winter to reprise the eponymous comedic duo.
