A new teaser for The Matrix: Resurrections features the franchise's familiar red and blue pills, along with confirmation on when the first trailer will be released and a few new looks at Keanu Reeves' Neo and other characters in the upcoming next instalment in the wildly popular Matrix franchise.

The teaser places the familiar red and blue pills next to each other on a white background with the phrase, "The Choice Is Yours." Next, amidst the classic digital din associated with the films, the scene dissolves away to leave the Matrix's black background and green vertical characters as they scroll along the screen. It's here that we learn the trailer will debut on Thursday, Sept. 9. A website whatisthematrix.com is also revealed, which gives fans the opportunity to pick their pill of choice.

When you click on either the red or blue pill on the website, a video begins to play with a voiceover as scenes from The Matrix: Resurrections flash across the screen. The scenes previewed depend on which pill is chosen, and each focuses around the choice made. The Red Pill asks the viewer to go deeper into the truth behind the Matrix, while the Blue Pill warns them to conversely shy away from it, so as not to upset the status quo and invite unwanted danger.

Regardless of the choice the viewer makes, however, each teaser appears to end with a glimpse of Keanu Reeves as Neo, with various looks as he either teams up with characters who could possibly be his allies in the film, or preparing to do battle against its potential villains, be they Agents, malicious programs or even humans. Finally, the teaser ends with a reveal of the Thursday, September 9th release date for the full trailer release.

Warner Bros. revealed the title for the fourth Matrix film during its CinemaCon panel. The trailer that aired at that venue, which is presumably the same one that will debut later this week, was also screened for those in attendance. Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss and Jada Pinkett Smith will be joined by newcomers Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Neil Patrick Harris, Jessica HenwickChristina Ricci and Jonathan Groff.

Directed by Lana Wachowski, The Matrix: Resurrection arrives in theaters and on HBO Max Dec. 22.
