Originally slated to hit theaters in December, Masters of the Universe now has a new release date.

According to Variety, the upcoming movie will release on March 5, 2021. Masters of the Universe adapts the He-Man toyline from the mid-1980s. Actor Noah Centineo will play Prince Adam, who transforms into the titular warrior. Alongside Teela, Man-at-Arms, Orko and The Sorceress, Adam will defend his ancestral Castle Grayskull against the infamous villain Skeletor.

This will not be He-Man's first time on-screen. The animated television series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe ran from 1983-1985. Its acclaim prompted the release of a live-action film in 1987. Starring Dolph Lundgren, Frank Langella and Courteney Cox, the film flopped, signaling a wind-down of the franchise.

However, Masters of the Universe has recently seen something of a boon. Dark Horse and DC produced a series of minicomic adventures for Adam, and Netflix released She-Ra and the Princesses of Power in 2018, an animated series focused on He-Man's titular sister, to wide acclaim.

Masters of the Universe has technically been in the works since 2007 but has spent the past decade in development hell. It's been passed around to various studios and directors, only for plans to fall apart at each new home. The most recent drama came with McG was announced as director in 2016, only to step away the next year. The studio tried to bring in screenwriter David S. Goyer to take the director's chair, but he also ended up backing off earlier this year due to budget issues. The movie finally found a permanent director in Aaron and Adam Nee, with Iron Man screenwriters Matt Holloway and Art Marcum taking over Goyer's script.

Directed by Aaron and Adam Nee, Masters of the Universe stars Noah Centineo. The movie releases March 5, 2021.
