Back when David S. Goyer was at the helm, Sony's upcoming Masters of the Universe was apparently poised to find some of its influence from a certain Peter Jackson trilogy, in terms of what it set out for itself.

In an interview with HN Entertainment, creature designer Carlos Huante, who previously worked on Alien: Covenant, said Goyer's script Goyer's script "made the world more fantastic than I thought it could go. It felt arty and fantastical at the same time...it was like a Lord of The Rings film."

This should come as no surprise. Huante was personally brought on to design the wildlife in the film by then-director/writer Goyer. Goyer, of course, later left the film, and Huante did as well, despite working on the original Filmation He-Man cartoon.

Despite liking the script, Huante believes Goyer left because the studio didn't want to fund the vision that he had for the film. In his opinion, he considers it a big screw up, calling it a "slam dunk money maker."

With Goyer gone, Masters of the Universe will be directed by Aaron and Adam Nee with a script still by Goyer but polished up by Iron Man scribes Art Mulcum and Matt Holloway.
