Some of the best gaming merchandise is found in collector's editions build around major exciting releases, and Mass Effect fans can look forward to the Mass Effect Legendary Cache. This is launching in celebration of Mass Effect Legendary Edition, the remastered collection of the original trilogy, and is a a $149.99 bundle of themed collectibles.

The Legendary Cache was revealed alongside the release date trailer for Mass Effect Legendary Edition, and is currently available for preorder on the BioWare Store and at various retailers. It includes some interesting collectibles for Mass Effect fans, and is a great way to celebrate the original trilogy that's held in such high regard. However, just as notable as what's included is what is not included.

The collectables found in the Cache include an in-universe letter congratulating the owner on qualifying as an N7, a set of spinners pins themed around the games' morality options and two canvas art prints. However, the stand-out inclusion is a replica of Commander Shepard's N7 Breather Helmet that's complete with an LED visor. Fans will be excited to know that BioWare has gone the extra mile to ensure that the helmet can be worn.

The rank of N7 actually means a lot to Mass Effect fans for both in-game and real-life reasons. In Mass Effect's universe, the rank of N7 is the highest possible rank a commander can receive, involving some truly brutal assessments. In real life, the rank has gone on to inspire the pseudo-holiday called N7 Day, which takes place on November 7 and is a time for both fans and those behind the series' creation to celebrate why Mass Effect is so beloved.

The mortality spinners reference a crucial gameplay mechanic in the Mass Effect trilogy. The Morality system impacts the story that the player's version of Commander Shepard embarks on and reflects the player's own actions. Players will find themselves classified as a Renegade if they perform selfish or cruel deeds, while heroic players will earn the rank of Paragon. The spinner pins reflect this system's importance to the series by having the blue Paragon and red Renegade symbols displayed proudly.

As for the art prints, the first ones appears depicts the Normandy, specifically the original SSV Normandy. The second (which is exclusive to the bundle offered on BioWare's store) is of a female Commander Shepard, called FemShep by fans, in full N7 armor and wielding an Omni-tool. The art prints, pins and helmet are classic symbols of the Mass Effect series that work great as commemorative items for long-time fans and collectors.

Without a doubt, the N7 Helmet is the premier item in this cache. It was actually recreated using the same 3D model that BioWare made for the game, which helps it keep a level of authenticity. Staying close to the source material is important for a game series as rich in lore as Mass Effect.

However, one thing that isn't included in the Cache is Mass Effect Legendary Edition itself. The Cache will include a steel book for displaying and storing the game, but fans who purchase the Cache will need to buy the game separately. This is something BioWare has been doing for quite some time now with its collector's bundles, which relegates the Cache to more of a goodie-bag of fanservice merchandise strictly for hardcore fans than a way to get your hands on the game.
