In November 2021, Mass Effect fans learned Amazon Studios is reportedly working with Electronic Arts (EA) to adapt Bioware's beloved video game series for television. Although fans can't agree on whether or not a television show is a good idea, or even if Commander Shepard should star in it, some creatives who worked on the Mass Effect games are excited about its potential. Former lead writer Drew Karpyshyn and Composer Sam Hulick have already voiced interest in coming aboard the show, and now, so has a very iconic voice actor.

Emmy-winning actor Keith David, who voiced Captain David Anderson in the original Mass Effect trilogy, exclusively told CBR he'd love to return to the SSV Normandy and its crew.

When asked about reprising his iconic role of Anderson and whether or not he'd change anything for the series -- should he be cast -- David shared, "Oh, no, I would just want to be there and do anything that they set up. I just want to be there."

In the Mass Effect video games, Anderson acts as a guiding force for the game's protagonist, Commander Shepard. David voiced the fan-favorite character for the video game series' first three games, spanning 2007-2012, and lent his talents again for Bioware's remastered Mass Effect: Legendary Edition that debuted in May 2021. In 2012, Patrick Seitz voiced the character for the animated film Mass Effect: Paragon Lost.

Of course, not everyone who worked on Bioware's Mass Effect video game series approves of the possible television adaptation. Former Bioware lead writer David Gaider voiced concern over a Prime Video television adaptation, sharing, "I'm relieved to see that the Mass Effect/Amazon deal is for a potential TV series and not a movie. Even so, the possibility (and likewise for Dragon Age) makes me cringe just a little, unlike many fans who appear... excited?" Gaider's apprehension largely stems from the difficulties of adapting a choice-based RPG video game into a coherent story since it risks oversimplifying certain character arcs, team dynamics, and tensions present in the game series.

At the time of this writing, there have been no further details about the format (animated or live-action) or length of the proposed Mass Effect series. Similarly, developer Bioware has yet to reveal anything else about their next installment in the Mass Effect video game series, although it's known that Liara T'Soni is making a comeback.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
