Mass Effect: Andromeda takes players to a whole new galaxy, with plenty of new romance options. There are limited new alien species to be romanced in the Heleus Cluster, but the Andromeda Initiative makes sure to bring along plenty of potential soul mates from the Milky Way. After a painstakingly long 633 year nap, Pathfinder Ryder is absolutely going to wake up thinking about their future, and that includes considerations about that special someone (or someones) they want to spend their time with.

Between Scott and Sara Ryder, BioWare offers a total of 10 romanceable NPCs in Mass Effect: Andromeda. While the majority of them have potential to become serious, lifelong commitments if that's what the player wants, others are more casually based around the sexual aspect of the relationship.

10. Keri T'Vessa

Asari Heleus News Services reporter Keri T'Vessa is a romance option for both Scott and Sara, though it can barely be considered a relationship by comparison to the other romances. Keri is more or less a casual sex partner, as she doesn't care at all if Ryder is in a relationship with someone else and seems to have very little desire to think about the future together.

Winning Keri over is relatively easy, as all it takes is showing an interest in helping her carry out her mission to honestly represent the Andromeda Initiative and its undertakings for the general public. Flirting with her while talking to her about key missions that have occurred in the story line build the foundation for the eventual hook-up. One of the positive things about having a fling with Keri is that's exactly what it is: A fling, and it doesn't interfere if the player is pursuing a more stable and serious romantic relationship with someone else.

9. Reyes Vidal

For either Scott or Sara, Reyes Vidal ticks off the bad boy boxes that make him seem, at first flirt, like the ideal romance with tons of potential for passion and intrigue. His status as the "Charlatan," one of the most dangerous underground crime bosses in Andromeda, and the fact that he keeps his true identity a secret from Ryder, signals regret for a lot of players once it's revealed. Still, the bad boy aspect is appealing to many, and those who enjoy dancing with danger have the opportunity to do exactly that once Reyes lays all his cards on the table.

If one can look past the secrets he keeps from Ryder while using them to meet his own agenda, and forgive his trespasses (and murders and smuggling and manipulations), Reyes does tell Ryder that going forward, he wants only honesty and he doesn't like hiding his true face from them. But, so far as romances go, there is little more than flirting, kissing and dancing with Reyes, which leaves many who romance him feeling completely unfulfilled.

8. Gil Brodie

BioWare had the right idea when it created Tempest's chief engineer Gil Brodie's exclusive romance for Scott, but somewhere in the execution, Gil's romance went just a little bit off the rails. As the two start flirting and options to begin the romance surface, Gil speaks honestly about what he wants from a relationship. Key among his desires are honesty and trust, and he tells Scott straight off he isn't interested in delving into anything unless there is absolute trust between them. This is great, as it creates an incredible dynamic, but things get intense pretty fast.

Gil's best friend, Jill, wants to have a baby, and she wants Gil to father that baby for her. Jill also notes that if they are in agreement, the three of them will co-parent the baby after it's born. Gil presents the idea to his Pathfinder partner, setting up a family dynamic that could complicate their future together -- especially if the Pathfinder isn't keen on starting a family so early in their relationship.

7. Avela Kjar

Angaran curator for the Aya Repository of History, Avela Kjar, is, at first, the only new alien romance exclusive to Scott. After meeting her on Aya, she tasks Ryder with finding several rare relics for her to examine and study. Ryder can flirt with her, eventually launching a romance with her that doesn't go far because Avela believes they are both too busy to focus on a real romance.

Avela breaks things off with Ryder because she doesn't want to become a distraction to him as he carries out his important mission, but she does promise him they can possibly pick things up again once he completes his work. Considering a Pathfinder's work will likely never be done, it's hard to imagine the two of them ever getting serious, which feels like a huge deterrent for players seeking a meaningful relationship with a brand new alien species.

6. Dr. Suvi Anwar

Science officer for the Tempest, Dr. Suvi Anwar, is an exclusive romance for Sara, which -- much like the romance with Gil -- tends to fall a little flat on the delivery. Suvi seems to suffer a great deal of regret about joining the Andromeda Initiative and leaving her beloved family behind in the Milky Way. Sara can start flirting with Suvi during their first meeting, and Suvi responds favorably, but it becomes apparent as options to flirt with her arise that she is interested but somewhat reluctant to start something serious.

After Suvi opens up to Ryder about missing her home and family, Ryder offers her comfort and a kiss, which leads to locking them into a relationship that carries on throughout the rest of the game. The downside about their relationship seems to be that despite caring for Sara in private, Suvi struggles with public displays of affection, possibly suggesting she is uncomfortable with everyone else knowing about their relationship.

5. Vetra Nyx

Vetra Nyx in Mass Effect Andromeda

For fans of the original Mass Effect trilogy who live to romance Garrus Vakarian, having the option to romance a female turian for the first time is incredibly exciting. Mercenary Vetra Nyx is a romance option for both Scott and Sara, and displaying admiration for her ability to survive, as well as her obvious inability to be corrupted by the darkness she deals with on a regular basis, is an easy way to warm Vetra to the Pathfinder's affections.

After Ryder helps save Vetra's sister, Sid, she invites the Pathfinder to a special outing on Kadara that leads to the two of them lying down together to look at the sky. While there, if Ryder isn't committed to another character romantically, Vetra asks if they are interested, which cements their relationship if Ryder affirms they are. Throughout the remainder of the game, Vetra and Ryder have some adorable scenes together, including Vetra's attempt to make them a special dinner, which she burns because she is a horrible cook.

4. Pelassaria B'Sayle

Pelassaria B'Sayle, known more affectionately as Peebee, is an Asari romance option for both Scott and Sara. Peebee starts out wanting little more than a fun and flirty fling, sex and adventure with no strings attached, but as the game and the player's relationship with her evolve, so do Peebee's feelings.

Life aboard the Tempest is a difficult transition for a free spirit like Peebee, and she often feels anxious, nervous and unsettled between missions. Initially, she invites Ryder into the Zero G chamber, which helps her relax, and if they accept, she professes another relaxation technique they can embark on together. If Ryder accepts Peebee's offer for casual sex, or expresses the desire for something more, both options open up the trail to launching a full-fledged romance with her after the completion of her companion loyalty mission.

For some, Peebee is a fan-favorite romance because she is quirky, wild and fun, but others find her blunt nature and erratic behavior just a little bit off-putting.

3. Liam Kosta

An exclusive romance for Sara, Liam Kosta is a fun-loving and adventurous companion who isn't afraid to dive into a one-night stand early in the game after sharing a few drinks and some nostalgic conversation. Early on, however, Liam has no real interest in getting serious. After all, they've come to a whole new galaxy and have a lot of things that seem, at the time, a bit more important than falling in love.

As the story progresses, however, and if Ryder didn't entangle herself in any other relationships, Liam eventually comes around and admits it's hard for him to talk about his feelings.

After their relationship becomes official, Liam sets up a sweet date where the couple free-fall together on Eos. Upon landing, he shows her a heart-shaped cloud he's arranged to appear in the sky above them. Despite being a little corny at times, locking into a relationship with Liam holds a host of promises for their future, including a confession from him after all is said and done that he would like to settle down and get married, starting a life and possibly a family together in their new galaxy.

2. Cora Harper

In-game character interaction in Mass Effect: Andromeda

Lieutenant Cora Harperias a romance exclusively reserved for Scott, and flirtation is optional in their first encounter after entering the Tempest. While the relationship itself has potential to become lasting and solid, Scott and Cora get off to a rough start, in part because of Cora's resentment over Alec Ryder choosing his son to become Pathfinder instead of her. As Alec's second-in-command, Cora had the knowledge, training and experience for the job, and the rebuff coupled with Alec's death leaves her feeling hurt and confused. In time, however, Cora softens to Ryder, allowing herself to open up more as love begins to blossom between them.

After completing Cora's personal mission, the couple share a conversation, during which she expresses her shame in idolizing Serissa. Ryder can offer her a hug in comfort, and soon after she invites him to meet her on Eos, where she has plans to cultivate a garden. Kissing her during this encounter locks their relationship down, and later on Ryder has the option to either have sex with her or cuddle while they stargaze. During that night together, she expresses her desire for a future that sees the two of them exploring alone together with nothing but the stars as their guide.

Before confronting the Archon in the final battle, Cora tells Ryder in their conversation on the bridge that she's hesitant about the idea of settling down if they survive, but she won't rule anything out.

1. Jaal Ama Darav

Originally, Angaran Resistance fighter Jaal Ama Darav was an exclusive new alien romance for Sara Ryder only. Fan complaints eventually prompted BioWare to amend that, and with patch 1.08 Jaal became a romance option for both Sara and Scott. Jaal's romance is one of the more endearing romances in the game, perhaps because it starts with distrust, grows into friendship and then launches into a promising romantic partnership with an incredibly affectionate and dedicated lover.

Earning Jaal's trust isn't always easy, as disregarding his advice and suggestions tends to make him even more distrustful as the game progresses. Hearing him out and taking his words into consideration before making decisions that regard his people begins endearing him to the player, and as their friendship blossoms, so does the opportunity for something more. Jaal takes Ryder home to meet his large family, then ushers them into his bedroom, where he shows them remnants of his childhood, something he confesses to the player he has never done before.

After meeting Jaal's family, he offers an opportunity to consummate and lock down their relationship at a special place in Aya, where the couple enjoy a romantic entanglement that leads to their first sexual encounter. Jaal's gentle nature and intrigue make him a fan-favorite for all players, many of whom firmly believe him to be the best romance in all of Andromeda.
