To defeat the Reapers in Mass Effect 3, Commander Shepard needs all the help they can get. Unfortunately, Cerberus and the Illusive Man are using their power and resources to the detriment of humanity and the rest of the galaxy. After downloading the From the Ashes DLC, Shepard had the opportunity to return to Eden Prime, where Admiral Hackett received word that Cerberus not only now occupies the colony, they've also uncovered a Prothean artifact that could be beneficial to the war effort.

Because of Liara's knowledge of Prothean artifacts, she is a mandatory squadmate on this mission. Shepard and crew will be facing an abundance of shielded and armored Cerberus agents, so having someone with access to powers like Overload and Incinerate will be highly beneficial in decimating enemies quickly. This mission becomes available after completing "Priority: Citadel I" and returning to the Normandy.

Mission: Find the Artifact

Commander Shepard clears a facility on Eden Prime in Mass Effect 3.

After landing on Eden Prime, take the pathway to the first outbuildings ahead. Enter the building on the right and grab the med-kit and salvage the computer for 3000 credits. There is also a terminal in this room. Examine it to learn about the Resistance Movement on Eden Prime and launch that mission as well. Head back outside and follow the path to the elevator, which leads to the Prothean artifact. After a moment of inspection, Liara determines it to be a stasis pod with a living Prothean inside. The pod was damaged during exhumation, and the life signs within are currently unstable.

When Shepard tries to open the pod, Liara discovers that they need to find the command signal that ends stasis mode before they try to physically open the pod. Before the party can head back toward the labs and look for the command signal and pod-opening instructions, Cerberus drops off a Centurion and two Nemesis snipers. Dispatch them quickly and begin the trek toward the labs near the back of the facility.

Mission: Learn How to Open the Pod

Javik is attacked by Collectors during a flashback in Mass Effect 3's From Ashes DLC.

Heading away from the stasis pod, move toward the science buildings. Enter building 5 on the left-hand side and salvage the equipment for 3000 credits. There is also Cerberus intel in this building for the resistance movement. Go back outside and stay left to enter the next building. In the courtyard beyond it, Cerberus Engineers, Troopers and Centurions wait to attack. Take them out, salvage the equipment nearby for 6000 credits, pick up more Cerberus intel from the nearby terminal and grab the med-kit.

Bypass the door to find the Cerberus studies on ancient Protheans, grabbing the med-kit before accessing the computer console. A cutscene occurs at this point, and Shepard sees the Prothean Reaper invasion as though they are present for it. There is a VI named Victory communicating with a Prothean about their plans to bunker underground in the stasis pods, but the Reapers have already taken out more than 30,000 of their people. Coming out of the vision, Shepard has learned how to open the Prothean lifepod, but they still need to find the Command Signal.

Back outside, go left and up the stairway through the courtyard. Follow another set of stairs and enter into a colony home to find four dead bodies, murdered by Cerberus while relaxing in their home. On the other side of the exit, Cerberus is waiting and there's already a turret set up. Battle through them, taking out the turret quickly and eliminating all foes before proceeding across the courtyard. Enter the next lab area and salvage the desk equipment for 3000 credits, then access the console for the next Prothean flashback scene, which shows the soldier preparing his gun to face an onslaught of Collectors rushing the area. As Shepard returns to the present moment with the command signal, it's time to get back to the stasis pod.

Mission: Open the Pod

The prothean Javik awakes in the present day in Mass Effect 3's From Ashes DLC.

With everything they need to stop stasis and open the pod, Shepard and crew head back to the landing area, but Cerberus will not make this easy. Two shuttles fly overhead, dropping numerous soldiers, including two engineers and four troopers. Eliminate them and go toward the building on the left with the door. On the other side of the door are more engineers, Centurions and three turrets. Battle through until reaching the bridge area, where Liara realizes they have retracted the bridge and the team needs to find another way back to the platform.

Jump down and head to the left, scaling the two ladders leading upward. Near the first building explored, leap across the venting ducks and prepare to defend the stasis pod from Cerberus. Multiple enemies emerge and drop, and taking them out quickly will lead to a small break to charge into the building and restock ammo before a giant ATLAS mech joins the battle. Overload and Inferno will help take down the mech's barriers, or a high enough Sabotage power can gain temporary control and turn the mech on other Cerberus enemies to help wipe them out.

With the area finally cleared, proceed toward the stasis pod for a cutscene in which Shepard can open the pod and speak to the Prothean within. He will introduce himself as Javik, and though Liara is immensely excited to be standing in front of a live Prothean, given her lifelong studies, he is less than enthusiastic about finding himself a lone Prothean amidst the multitude of primitive species his own people once studied like science experiments. Upon completing the mission, Javik joins Shepard aboard the Normandy and becomes a full-fledged squad member with a couple of unique abilities and a hunger for vengeance against the Reapers who decimated his people 50,000 years ago.
