If you've ever wondered where to find wrestling masks with lovingly detailed histories in poppy retro video game fashion but never found a good enough resource, now's your chance.

An Illustrated Guide to Masked Wrestlers is a cross between an interactive gallery and an online museum exhibit where 226 wrestling masks are recreated in an 8-bit art style. From the home page, you can choose to either be guided through the gallery, connecting certain masks' and wrestlers' stories together (under "Choose a Guided Story") or choose to explore the gallery freely, clicking on whichever mask ignites your curiosity (under "Skip the Story").

When viewing the gallery, the impressive 11-by-22 grid of wrestling masks appears on the right, with one 8-bit mask, the mask's title and a description (which changes depending on the story mode you've selected) appearing on the left. A small plus sign next to the title reveals information about the wrestler who wore that mask, including their real name, nationality and active years.

From there, viewers can further choose which story thread they'd like to experience: "The Masks," "Around the World" or "Society and Culture." Each story mode selects a few masks for you to click and showcases a different facet of wrestling culture, such as basic terminology, the different nationalities' wrestling scenes and what wrestling culture means for both the performers and fans.

An Illustrated Guide to Masked Wrestlers was created by Gwendal Uguen, along with web developers and designers Russell Goldenberg and Jan Diehm. "For me, the mask is the best symbol in wrestling," Uguen writes in the "About" section. "It is immediately recognizable and unique for every wrestler. I started out drawing them just for fun at first, but through my research I discovered passionate lives that I wanted to share."
