This is starting to shape up to be a pretty big week for Marvel animation announcements. Hot on the heels of the news that Ultimate Spider-Man will not only premiere in April but also kick off a Marvel-themed block of programming on Disney XD comes word that The uper Hero Squad Show will make the jump at the end of the month from Cartoon Network to The Hub.
“We’re delighted to be adding The Super Hero Squad Show to our lineup,” The Hub President and CEO Margaret Loesch said in a statement. “This terrific, high-quality series is a bullseye for our key demographic and is perfectly aligned with our strategy of building our schedule with strong, beloved brands that audiences know and embrace. Additionally, we’re thrilled to be associated with Marvel Animation. As one of the world’s preeminent character-based entertainment companies, Marvel has a superb reputation for providing quality entertainment.”
While it’s not clear whether this means the series is completely moving The Hub — it’s co-owned by Discovery Channel and toymaker Hasbro — or simply being syndicated, the cartoon will join the network’s weekday lineup beginning Jan. 30 at 4 p.m. ET/PT. Encore presentations will air on the weekends.
Based on the Hasbro action-figure line, The Super Hero Squad Show features an Avengers-like team made up of Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Wolverine, Falcon, Silver Surfer, Ms. Marvel, Reptil and others. It’s aimed at children, but offers plenty of in-jokes and general humor for comic fans and adults alike.
