Insomniac Games recently showcased gameplay for the upcoming remastered edition of Marvel's Spider-Man, which will feature a new face for Peter Parker. The decision to recast the hero, has not been well-recieved by the game's fanbase. In response to criticism, Insomniac creative director Bryan Intihar released a statement, saying, "We at Insomniac totally understand your reaction... It even took me awhile to get used to Peter's new look." He then explained, "As we discussed the franchise's future and moving to the PS5, it quickly became apparent that delivering even more believable-looking characters made finding a better facial match for actor Yuri Lowenthal â who we all love as Peter â a necessity"
He went on to assure fans that the team cares as much about the character as the fans. "Please know we didn't make this decision/change lightly," Intihar continued. "As we did throughout the development of Marvel's Spider-Man, we'll continue to read your comments, listen and always be looking for ways to improve every facet of the game."
Insomniac is set to release both Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered as well as the standalone Spider-Man: Miles Morales, both exclusively for Sony's upcoming PlayStation 5. While actor Yuri Lowenthal provided the voice and motion-capture performance of Peter Parker, actor John Bubniak provided his likeness in the original game. The remastered game replaces Bubniak's face with that of actor Ben Jordan.
Developed by Insomniac Games and PlayStation Studios, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be available on both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on Nov. 12th.
