Following the reveal of Spider-Man in Marvel's Avengers, players have been debating both the character's age and how long he's been serving as a superhero. Developer Crystal Dynamics finally weighed in to settle the argument and clarify the situation.

According to Crystal Dynamics' Senior Brand Manager Nick Edwards, Peter Parker is still relatively new to the crime-fighting scene, but he's also not a child. Writing in a post on Reddit, Edwards states, "He's out of high school and around college age, he's been doing this longer than Kamala, but started up after A-day (if I'm remembering the details right)." While this answers some of the community's questions, it still leaves a great deal of information on the table. Many have suggested that Marvel's Avengers is rewriting Spider-Man's origin to align with the events of A-Day, in a similar fashion to Kamala Khan.

Spider-Man was announced as a DLC character for Marvel's Avengers before the game even launch in 2020. While fans of the web-head are no doubt excited to see him fight alongside Square Enix's consistently growing superhero brawler, his inclusion does come with a catch. Peter Parker will only be available as a playable hero on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 systems. Many fans have speculated that the character's exclusivity is due to Sony, with some hoping that he'll eventually make his way to Xbox and PC. Neither Square Enix nor Sony has addressed this point.

"The legendary web-slinger Spider-Man will come exclusively to PlayStation players in the November 30th update along with the Spider-Man: With Great Power Hero Event. Spider-Man’s high-flying acrobatics bring an entirely new way to experience the game either solo or with friends, and his unique movement and combat abilities are sure to be a great addition to any Strike Team taking on missions in the Avengers Initiative," reads the official announcement.

Despite the controversy around his exclusivity, many fans are hopeful that Spider-Man will be able to rekindle Marvel's Avengers. The game's community was upturned by the addition of paid XP boosts to the in-game store. Many dedicated fans saw the inclusion as a broken promise as initial messaging insisted Marvel's Avengers would only include cosmetic microtransactions. Following the outrage, Crystal Dynamics reversed the decision and pulled the XP boosts from sale.

Marvel's Avengers is now available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC. Spider-Man is only available on PlayStation consoles.
