Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Trailer

The reveal trailer for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 doesn't show off too much of the game itself, but it includes just enough to get Marvel fans excited. The footage shows the pair of Spider-Men working in tandem to handily dispatch some goons, with a few new improvements in their arsenal. Not only does Peter Parker's white-spider suit have a few aesthetic changes, but he's also added a set of robotic arms. The Iron Spider attachments were an optional ability added with unlockable suits in the first game, but it appears these will be a more significant part of Peter's fighting style this time around.

The reveal trailer also gives players a look at the formidable foes they will be coming up against in Marvel's Spider-Man 2. While a mysterious voiceover hints at an appearance by classic Spider-Man villain Kraven the Hunter, another villain makes their terrifying presence felt. The final shot looms into a dark alley before revealing that Peter and Miles will be taking on Venom.

What Is Marvel's Spider-Man 2 About?

Not much has been announced regarding the plot of Marvel's Spider-Man 2, but an alleged leak claims to provide more details. Insomniac has already said that the game will have a much darker tone than the previous installments, and the leak says the dreaded symbiote will have a major role in shaping the main plot. It claims that both Miles and Peter will be playable, and that both will have their own interactions with the symbiote, with the alien substance sure to corrupt the heroes in some way.

As for the villains' involvement in the campaign, there still remains question marks over the identity of Venom, as well as the mystery voice in the trailer. The post-credits scenes of the first Spider-Man and Miles Morales showed the symbiote bonded to Harry Osborn, who was suspiciously absent in the first game, appearing only through recorded audio logs. The character is most commonly associated with Eddie Brock, but Insomniac has already found great success in putting its own spin on well-known Spider-Man characters.

The suspected presence of Kraven as a major antagonist would certainly play into Marvel's Spider-Man 2's teased darker story. Kraven's Last Hunt is heralded as one of the best Spider-Man stories ever told in the comics, and this storyline also overlaps with the symbiote saga. The grim tale could certainly have a big influence on the sequel, though there will likely be a mix of adaptation and entirely new material.

When Does Marvel's Spider-Man Release?

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 currently does not have a firm release date. So far, Insomniac has only said the game is planned for a 2023 release, announcing that window in the reveal trailer.

The developer also has a lot on its plate at the moment, with the studio also confirmed to be working on a Wolverine title for PlayStation 5. With what are sure to be two massive games in the works, it's understandable why Insomniac isn't ready to give its games more specific release windows that are likely to move. While 2023 may seem like a long ways away, given the studio's other work on its previous Spider-Man games and 2021 game of the year contender Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, there's plenty of reasons to look forward to Marvel's Spider-Man 2.
