Marvel Comics is stepping up its promotion for the upcoming "Secret Empire" crossover event, this time borrowing a tactic that has worked well for the company's film and TV divisions. In support of the Captain America-centric storyline, Marvel has debuted the following teaser trailer for the series.
Featuring contributions from series writer Nick Spencer and Marvel SVP of publishing Tom Brevoort, the trailer covers the necessary plot points you need in order to get on board what the publisher says will be its last big comic book event "18 months, at least."
The trailer also comes with a series synopsis:
The Marvel Universe is under siege from within. Due to the manipulations of the Red Skull, Captain America--secretly a true believer in the cause of Hydra--is finally set to enact his master plan. Yet as the dominos begin to fall, there are those who would rise to meet the challenge. Hydra’s ascension stands as a rallying cry, and Avengers, Champions, Guardians, Defenders, X-Men, Spider-Man and more must put aside their differences and come together as one: The first and last line of defense against Hydra!
Captain America's heel turn at the hands of Kobik, the sentient cosmic cube that altered reality to ensure that the iconic Sentinel of Liberty had always has been a member of the fictional fascist organisation Hydra, has divided fandom, with many repulsed by the notion that Captain America is the villain of the storyline.
Will Captain America be defeated? And will that defeat lead to the rise of a new generation of heroes? Fans will have to read to find out.
Written by Nick Spencer, and with art by Steve McNiven, Andrea Sorrentino, Leinil Yu and Daniel Acuña, “Secret Empire” #1 arrives May 3.
