Marvel's Midnight Suns unveiled details on its brand new protagonist for the game, The Hunter, including their tragic backstory and the introduction of their hellhound pet, Charlie.

The Hunter, an entirely customizable hero for players to alter to their preference, is the child of the game's central antagonist, Lilith. According to a new bio on Marvel's Midnight Suns' website, The Hunter was born to Lilith and her father, "an ordinary man" who died from the Plague several centuries previously. The death of her husband led to the immortal sorcerer becoming twisted until she became "a demi-goddess of evil." With Lilith choosing a dark path, the demoness' sister, Caretaker, took over raising The Hunter with the aim of turning her niece into a weapon against her mother's hordes of demons ravaging Earth.

The Hunter managed to defeat her mother once she came of age, but both perished in the battle. Hydra discovered Lilith and brought her back from the dead, then amplified her powers with its advanced technology and magic. Marvel's Midnight Suns' bio reveals The Hunter was resurrected, but it does not specify by whom. While The Hunter must once again battle their mother, they also must fight against their inner demons.

If previous Hero Spotlight teasers are anything to go by, a full-fledged look at The Hunter's gameplay should release in the next few days. Other character videos include a look at Doctor Strange, who plays an everyman support hero for the team, the intensely quick and mobile Spider-Man, the potentially overpowered jack-of-all-trades Iron Man and the shield-wielding, tanky Captain America.

Midnight Suns' Lilith Could Be a Thanos-Level Threat

Although Lilith, also known as the Mother of All Demons, is something of a lesser-known villain in Marvel comics, she is no less deadly. The demoness first appeared in Ghost Rider #28 by Howard Mackie and Andy Kubert as an ancient being from Atlantis that birthed several evil spawn. Besides the more traditional methods of creating new demons, Lilith can also transform living beings into her minions, something that's already been referenced in trailers for Marvel's Midnight Suns. Unlike major threats such as Thanos or Doctor Doom, Lilith doesn't require devices such as the Infinity Gauntlet to do massive amounts of destruction.

Following a second delay, moving the release date back to sometime during the 2022 Fiscal Year, Marvel's Midnight Suns will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Microsoft Windows.
