Firaxis Games, developer of Marvel's Midnight Suns, confirmed that the players will not be able to engage in romantic relations with the game's cast of heroes.

Speaking to IGN, Jake Solomon, creative director on Marvel's Midnight Suns, clarified that while players will be able to form deep relationships with the team, it'll be strictly as friends. Fans hoping to seduce Captain America, Doctor Strange or Wolverine (amongst others) will simply be "very, very, very good friends" instead.

Solomon clarified that while he would have liked to have seen a romantic system within Midnight Suns, the already established nature of the Marvel heroes stood in Firaxis Games' way. "[T]rust me, if I could romance Blade, I would. But yes, it's more a case of these are very well-defined characters. So instead it's deep, deep friendship."

"The idea is that by the time you maximize your friendship with these characters, you are as close to them as anybody else in the Marvel universe. But yeah, not romantic," continued Solomon.

Relationships will form a large part of the player's time in Midnight Suns. When the Hunter, the character players will create themselves, is not fighting back against Lilith's army of demons, they'll be hanging out in The Abbey. This gothic-style homebase will allow the Midnight Suns to decompress and relax. In between missions, the Hunter can chat to their team, give them gifts and engage in fun activities.

The closer the Hunter becomes to a hero, the more abilities they unlock in battle. Midnight Suns features a turn-based tactical combat system where characters are given a selection of cards. Each of these cards represents a unique ability that is specific to the assigned hero. Many of the game's most powerful abilities will require a very high friendship score to unlock.

Players can also look forward to bonding with Captain Marvel, Blade, Nico Minoru, Magik, Iron Man and Ghost Rider. Firaxis Games confirmed that Midnight Suns will include a total of 12 iconic Marvel heroes and plans on releasing more information on the three unknown characters in the near future.

Fans excited to read a book with Doctor Strange or lift weights with Blade won't need to wait much longer. Marvel's Midnight Suns launches in March 2022 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.
