Marvel's Midnight Suns showcased the X-men's Magik, AKA Illyana Rasputina, in its latest character reveal video leading up to the game's highly anticipated release.

The Queen of Limbo featured in a 6-minute gameplay video posted to Marvel's Midnight Suns' official YouTube channel, revealing in-game dialogue, move sets and other cutscenes. Narrator Christopher Odd described how her playstyle revolves around "using her portals to move enemies, allies and objects around the map." Odd says that, while he wants to classify her as a support role, he doesn't think that "does her capabilities justice" with such a "unique" toolset.

Players can use Magik to place opening and exit portals almost anywhere and knock enemies through them, potentially sending them into explosive objects or one another. Another ability, "Gather," allows Illyana to group enemies together to set up additional attacks, dealing damage to them in the process. Magik can even force enemies off the battlefield for a turn with the card "Banish," replacing them with a Drop. A player may achieve an instant K.O. if they knock back an enemy into a Drop.

Marvel's Midnight Suns also showcased Magik's Heroic Ability, "Dark Child," and a passive ability that levels as the player's friendship will Illyana grows. Dark Child turns her invulnerable for a turn and taunts all enemies on the map. By upgrading the card, Magik can counter on the same turn while invulnerable to strike back against every attacking enemy. Her passive, meanwhile, adds a 10% chance to add a portal card to the player's hand during a battle at first level, and at second raises the odds to 25%.

Magik features in the X-Men universe as a powerful mutant sorceress. She rules the demonic realm of Limbo and is capable of opening up portals in time and space. After being captured by an immortal demon lord called Mephisto when she was a child, her mutant power manifested into the ability to teleport. She eventually forged a weapon from her own life force called the Soulsword. With this new sword and power, she ultimately overthrew Mephisto and returned to Earth.
