The second season of Marvel Studios' Loki is set to begin filming in mid-2022, much earlier than expected.

Shooting will take place at Pinewood Studios during the summer, according to a new listing on the casting website Backstage. In August 2021, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige suggested that cameras would roll on Loki Season 2 "between next year and the year after," leaving room for filming to commence as late as 2023. Pre-production on the Disney+ series may have progressed more quickly than Feige anticipated, given the shoot will start well before then.

Loki Season 1 charted the redemptive journey of an alternate version of the God of Mischief first introduced in 2019's Avengers: Endgame. The show's Loki variant (once again played by Tom Hiddleston) was partnered with Owen Wilson's Mobius M. Mobius, an agent of the mysterious Time Variance Authority eager to exploit Loki's unique talents to save the so-called "sacred" timeline itself. Along the way, the pair encounter several other Loki variants, including Sophia Di Martino's female incarnation of the God of Mischief, Sylvie.

The series added several major elements to the Marvel Cinematic Universe's existing canon. It teased the arrival of the MCU's next major villain, Kang the Conquerer, in the form of Jonathan Major's timeline meddling scientist He Who Remains. Loki's first season also ushered in the multiverse concept featured in Spider-Man: No Way Home and What If..., something which will be more fully explored in upcoming release Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Loki Season 1's epic scope made it a challenging production at times. Director Kate Herron has previously commented about the difficulty involved with bringing Episode 5, "Journey into Mystery" to the screen, labeling it "an absolute beast." The show's conceptual and technical complexity may explain why Kevin Feige was keen to manage fan expectations around Loki Season 2's production timelines.

Expected returning cast members for Loki Season 2 include Hiddleston, Di Martino and Wilson, as well as Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Ravonna Renslayer, Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15, and Tara Strong as the voice of Miss Minutes. There's a chance Jack Veal and DeObia Oparei Kate could also reprise their roles as Kid Loki and Boastful Loki, respectively. Conversely, Kate Herron has confirmed she won't direct Loki's second season; Marvel Studios hasn't announced who will replace her.

Loki Season 1 is now available to stream on Disney+; the second season does not have a release date yet.
